CLSB Bird Hunt..December 13th !

Im going to be putting together a bird hunt at a game preserve somewhere in N. IL, hopefully in October sometime.

Who would be interested it getting in on this? It would be probably pheasent, chukar maybe quail. Ill have to look into that part of it.

This will probably be hunting over dogs so if youve never done that before-that becomes a major concern (DONT SHOOT THE DOGS IN YOUR EXCITEMENT OF A BIRD FLUSHING AT YOUR FEET).

This isnt an outing to just go BLAST some stuff. Lets do that at the Buffalo Range.

Serious inquiries only.

Who's interested?

1>Mike-2weelfool
2>Ken-Odysseys
3>Kelly-Labdog
4>Rick-RickC1957
5>Tony-GsxrTony
6?

it doesnt matter what we hunt, it should be a fun gathering, and PLEASE everyone that goes, have your F.O.I.D. card on you as well, as what ever hunting licenses we need. mike also check into that where ever it is to obtain them.

thanks, we packing orange vest too?

Good point on the FOID card Ken.

IL hunting license normally not needed on private game preserves.

Orange vest a definate yes. I have a few so dont go out and buy one right away.

but thats up to you if ya want too.

as far as the meat, we can all get together and field dress our stuff too so you guys can do your own but watch how to do it

Mike you know i'm in!!! Yes bring your FOID card! May not need it on the hunt but you WILL need it if transporting! New hunters- Bring a pair of latex gloves, pocket knife (sharp), a pouch, and if you have new dog to hunt have a bell on his collar.

Gloves- bird cleaning if your squemish (girly girl)
Pocket knife- Uhh obvious
Pouch- to carry the bird if you do not have a pheasant jacket
Bell- Uhh Obvious
wet wipes-to either wash the hands or face from the blood

I guess I shouldve put that in my original post. If you have a bird dog let me know. Less dogs/handlers from the farm, lower the cost.

Kelly, you bringing yours? You have setters right?

I'd like to go but need more details about time. Also I wont be bringing a long gun either. Never hunted with dogs and dont eat either animal. So no need to shoot it. I really just want to watch how hunting with the dogs works. So if this doesnt bug anyone and the timing works out I'd love to go.

Typically you need to be a hunter with gun and card on a (KEY WORD) state run facillity. Now if Mike knows a spot which is private then that should not be a problem. I think you would enjoy it and it would be great to have ya along!

This will definately be a game farm (pay to shoot). I dont have the time to go and scout a public area. I also want to be gauranteed to find birds. You tell them how many birds you want released. Usually a 4 bird minimum per person. I cant see the 3 or so of us walking public acreage. The state run places are crap for the most part anyways. Theyre still pen raised birds.

and as far as cleaning birds, over 1/2 of the places actually give you birds that have been cleaned and frozen already (usually your choice) Its a nice option if youre going to eat them because they wont have pellets in them.

Stay tuned..

Mike,

I'm interested, I can probably get a few guys I shoot sporting clays with interested too. I would highly recommend that everyone be properly licensed, it supports game management and most clubs that I hunt with require you to have one. Also, if on the way home you get stopped, it's tricky explaining to the officier, about game birds and guns and no license Everyone should have orange vests on, and if anyone cracks a beer open in the field, I'm gone. Can you tell I've been on group hunts that have gone sour The only time I can't make the hunt is Oct 10, 11 and 12 I have a trade show. Be great getting together with you, Kelly and Ken (which dog face goes all the way to Woodfield and never stops by my shop to introduce his sorry ass )

you dont need permits and licenses on private game preserves/farms.

Youre never screwed, theyre always willing to take your money. Long after the IL season closes. Most preserves are open until March
