Lifetime Fitness. They have places all over Chicagoland so I can go to one near home, at my girlfriends place or even in Michigan. A little more upscale than most Bally's and has a great lap pool, lots of cardio equipment, plenty of machine weights, a little thinner on freeweights but have at least 1 of everything. Not too expensive at $60 + $270 start-up fee but no long term contracts.
I go to Bally's myself. I actually like Lifetime better but too expensive for me. I bought my membership off ebay for $700 and I pay $6/month. The best part is I can sell it when I'm done.:thumbsup
LIfetime, really nice place. this place has everything, you can get a haircut and your taxes done there, they outta put a titty bar in there as well.

Had a Lifetime membership about three years ago. Loved it. Open 24hrs. B-ball, hot tub, waterslide, outdoor pool in the summer loaded with hot housewives :thumbsup Now, I have a membership through work to the Esplanade. Small place with good equipment. Nothing beats Lifetime though.

i work out at home using eveything from the rafter in the garage and basment, to doing reverse push ups up and down the stairs from the basment to the 2nd floor.
Advocate Fitness (Advocate Health Care) runs a small but effective operation at my job downtown. The price is right, it's ultra convenient and the instructors are knowledgeable and personable people. The only bad thing is that they are not open on the weekends and are limited to the equipment that they can use due to the facilities size!
Definitely do your homework when selecting a gym to join....there's a lot to take into consideration. If health and fitness is part of your lifestyle (which it should be :)) then your gym should encourage and sponsor said lifestyle. Unfortunately, we let cost play too much a part in this decision (including myself).

I live in a Country Club community. The "country club" in this case means there is a pool, gym, banquet hall, just for members of the community. It's small but not crowded at all. The membership is part of our assessment fees.

I have a Bally's membership but haven't used it in years. Those places are too crowded IMHO. I haven't paid the dues in years but they ask me to re-up every year for about $50 bucks.:rolleyes The company I work for built a new $16 mil dollar fitness center. It has a full b-ball court, jogging track, cardio machines, free weights and weight machines, aerobics area with full time instructors, locker rooms with showers and towels available, a lounge with vending machines containing sports drinks and snacks. Cable TV's are mounted in front of all the machines so you can watch while you sweat. All this for $15 bucks a month and never have to leave the building.:D

Bally's before I moved north... now, there's a little gym in our office complex. Just the 'basics' - no pool, but the place is immaculately clean and they do have towel service. That, and they open at 5:15 in the morning.

LOL Lifetime is nice... but the club in Warrenville needs to clean up its act... dust bunnies under the machines and crap all over the place in the locker room... Bloomingdale is WAY cleaner. Ballys is pretty killer... clean and can get in and out quick. The Villa Park club ROCKS and is state of the art and never too crowded. Some of em NEED to update their equipment big time (caugh, caugh Naperville)

I accidentally made a new thread for this same topic since I didn't see this one. I deleted it and my message is below...
I haven't been reading these boards much since my sport bike was stolen in Sept and I won't have money to buy one for a while as I am spending it on buying a house soon. I will certainly get another sport bike through and this site was the best info on the net for me. A great group of riders for sure and I had a good time.
It is good to see the new forums out there for those with other interests. Fitness was always a big one for me but I have slacked off majorly the past year. This forum has contributed to my motivation to workout again and I can see this being a great thing especially in the off season. I bet these other interest forums will build the community of clsb even more.
Motivation is important for working out and so is accountability. I would think it would do us well to know where each other does their workouts. Maybe some people would want to schedule it together if they find out a fellow rider goes to the same gym.
So where do you guys work out at?
I just found out after a year of working at my company that they pay for a membership for us at the Barrington South Club. They didn't advertise this at all so I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get it for a year but glad I have something now. It is only 2 miles from my work so I have no excuse for not using it now. There are not many people there and it has everything I need for lifting and cardio. I am looking forward to getting back in shape.

Work out at Worlds Gym in Joliet, $29/month, and they took over an old Dominick's building next to it. (53,000 sq. ft.)
They're building a 1/4 mile track (biggest in Joliet) and having new equipment with tanning beds, and both a hottub and sauna.
There will also be a GNC in the building along with a sports equip. shop. Oh yeah, It's open 24/7:thumbsup

Used to go to Bally's in Lombard or Naperville. I like the Lombard one better though.
Now that I moved to Addison it's gonna have to be the Bally's either in Villa Park or Glendale Heights. From the looks of it both places look like small clubs.:(

Gotten to damn lazy anymore. Well, if you do, get in quick, it's $29 right now, if you wait till May/June when the new place opens, it'll be $42/month. But you can get locked in @ $29/month for life. You're dues will never go up. And if you have a second that wants to join, you can add them to your membership for $19/month.
