What the HELL is going on in Iraq?

Hey - could somebody explain to me whats going on in Iraq?

2 large car bombings this week, then an organized assualt on an American supported prison. Seems like we under estimated our enemy once again. Is it just me, or are things not like they appear?

Guerilla warfare is very difficult to win. Just look at Palestine and Israel. These recent attacks have killed far more "U.S. friendly" Iraqi's than our own soldiers. How long do you think we will have their support?

The thing I don't get is they are targeting their own people. The last car bomb was in front of the Iraqi Army recruiting post.

The are targeting their own people that are "cooperating" with the U.S. forces. My girl friend has family in the middle east and from what I gather, it is taking it's toll on U.S. support from the locals.

The closer we get to acheiving our goals the stronger and more violent will be the terrorist attacks. It is similar to the Kamakazi attacks at the end of WWII. These are acts of desperation. They will continue to go after soft high impact targets where the primary victims will be their own people that do not agree with the terrorists political and religious goals until their support structure is eliminated.

I also understand that most of the locals are more sick of the terrorists than us. They are ready for a democratic style government.

One of the running theories is that these attacks are being coordinated by foreign fighters... ie Al Qaida. So when they kill Iraqis they aren't really killing their own. Also, the bad guys are trying to incite a civil war between the Sunnis and the Shiites. That's why so many civilians have been killed and wounded in these attacks.

Mightier, you make it sound like anyone can. This war on terrorism cannot end. I know some may say this is not part of the war on terrorism, but I am talking about terrorist attacks. People will always hate something. It is the way life works.

The United States will fall eventually, then a new power will arise, and a group will rebel against them. I don't like it, but I accept it.
