Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe
I hope soon we will be getting a new car, and NOT a GM. My wife likes the Dodge Charger, but gas isn't cheap. She also likes the Toyota Matrix, and from what I heard and seen, you can't go wrong with a Toyota. My question is, they Toyota Matrix and the Ponitac Vibe are the same care, who makes them. I think Toyota makes them both, I tought I read that in Motortrend a while back but I can't remember. He Cavalier HAS to last I hope 1 more year
GM

as far as engine and overall design, i believe they are the same. cant go wrong with toyota, they are good cars, and everything from a corolla can be used if shit breaks. and there are lots of corollas out there. plus it looks better.

If I were you I'd definitely go with the Matrix. Personally I think it looks a little better and will last much longer since it has the Toyota name on it

VERY TRUE I priced them both and the Vibe was more, so Toyota gets my vote for that. As long GM dosn't make the Matrix and you can get all wheel drive on it too.

They share the same 2 Yamaha engines and a GM Frame, and are manufactured in the same plant, the only difference is minor interior details and exterior. As far as Toyota being cheaper, you may want to check that again, because GM has huge bonus incentives right now and hot button promotions. You can price compare and get incentive details at www.carsdirect.com there's where I do all my pricing.

Don't know about current pricing but I know when I bought my Matrix last summer it was cheaper than the Vibe. I tend to think that the Toyota will have a higher resale value, I could be wrong though. When we started looking we were going to get a Corolla but the inside of the Matrix feels huge compared to the Corolla. Ours ended up at $19600.00 out the door (I think) with package 2(moonroof, ABS, alloy, 6 CD indash). Toyota was running a 3.9% deal on it. It's a bit loud on the acceleration and is fairly gutless but it's a miser on gas and handles pretty good.

Get the Toyota. It is about 2 grand cheaper and has a longer powertrain warranty. The Vibe has a 36000 mile one where the Matrix has a 60000 one. See if this Yahoo auto comparo works.

Whats wrong with GM? whats RIGHT with GM? My best friend bought a GMC ultra superdy duper diesel pickup brand new and has been in for far more repairs (under warranty) that I would ever feel comfortable with. God help him when the warranty expires.

I do believe the Scion and Matrix have the same engine and you can run a Toyota for almost ever.

kinda like the same car but...
Toyota is cheaper in price, and looks better. The Vibe doesn't come in awd does it? Matrix does. Toyota has more options and after market parts.

I like the looks of the Vibe better... and haven't really had bad experience with GM. The Matrix don't look bad either, though.

I have a friend that had a Rav4 with 180K on it, bought it new, rolled it into a ditch and it still started and drove. This with hardly any maintanence, he is a lazy fuck. I'm sold on Toyota.

I'm not saying I won't buy GM again, but it sucks that I babied the motor with proper maintenance, synth oil, premium gas; only to have to everything else around it go to crap. The typical $400 bill every 6 or so months for fixing things is cheap compared to a car loan. GMs are cheaper to fix than the imports too. Back to topic: I like the styling of the Matrix more than the Vibe, but the Vibe has a GM approved supercharger accessory. I suggest test driving though, some people are not prepared for just how whimpy the motor actually is.

both the Vibe and the Matrix come in with 3 engine options all 3 are 1.8L but 1 is 135hp the other is 180hp the 3rd option is the AWD and it's 140hp for some reason. This Engine is made by Yamaha you can check the window sticker at a dealer says it right at the top left.
As far as GM being crap? Don't know what you all are talking about I had an 02 TA WS6 got 25mpg never had one problem with it. And if your talking Truck class Silverado has the highest resale value in it's class. I also own a 2000 Tundra so I'm not saying Toyota is bad but the average lifespan for someone owning a car is 3 years, so either buy a car that is 1 year used and save the money there or just buy what you want cause you like it.

SSC likes their Matrix project car:
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...scc_promatrix/ The motor ran suprisingly well under boost, considering the abnorammly-high compression ratio of the Celica motor.

My 1st GM was a 90 Chevy Beretta and it was ok, it rattled a lot and I was waiting for something to fall off. My second GM was a 96 GMC Jimmy, and this POS was in the shop 6 times. 2 trans, 2 transfer cases, blown head gasket, rear end went out. This was a new truck also. My mom has a 99 Buick Regal and she's having noting but problems, and it only has 40,000 miles in it, if that. My wife has a 99 Chevy Cavalier and we dumped about $1600.00 in the last 6 months. One thing we got the motor for the driver side window fixed and now the passenger side is crapping out. A fuel injector went out and it only has 56,000 miles on it.
My dad has taught me to take care of my vehicles and I do all preventive work on them. I do oil changes every 3000 miles and anything else that needs to be done. I now see why GM is going down the crapper and their resale on cars suck. I was loyal to GM now I’m loyal to my wallet. I had a total of 4 Chrysler vehicles in my life. I had a 81 Plymouth Turismo and it ran great, then a 89 Dodge Dakota that I bought off a friend and it had 200,000 miles on it when I bought it and sold it back to him with 300,000 miles on it. I beat that thing to death and still ran. I had a ’99 Dodge Durango and got over 100,000 miles on it and I would of kept that but I got a great deal on a ’03 Durango. Now I see why GM was down 12.7% in February and Chrysler was up 7.5% (Honda down 16.5%) http://www.mlive.com/business/fljour...0458193060.xml I’m not saying Chrysler is perfect, but so far I’m happy. My dad had a Toyota and it ran nice, and never been in a shop for anything but regular stuff. I don’t like to bash brands, but I’m just sick of GM lately.

toyotas start on fire and have a sludge problem, besides the other recalls.
Nothing wrong with GM. Only problem with them losing money is because they have to pay all the employees "union" benefits. People want to buy domestic gas but want a foreign car. ![]() |

I've never seen a GM do that. I wish all my customers owned GM's, my paycheck would be alot bigger. And this is all coming from an ex diehard GM guy, which I was until I opened my eyes and started looking at facts instead of basing my opinions on the logic that my whole family always had GM's so I should have one too.-Ryan -Ryan |
