Extending range on a wireless router

Friend of mine has his internet connection in his basement, uses his laptop and PS3 on the 3rd floor. Checking around he was asking if this was something worth trying, and if not, what products have you used to increase signal between floors in a house? 90% sure he has a Linksys G router.

Super Cantenna the commercial version or:

eat yourself some pringles, when the can is empty poke a hole in it with a pen about 1/4 the way from teh steel end, jam can onto router antenna and aim at desired location

These work great, my buddy has had WiFi for years now. For free because he has 2 of these pointing at 2 seperate houses down the block. All you need is a good Wireless card, USB cable, and 2 coffee cans. Cut the bottom out of 1 can, duct tape them together, cut hole for female USB port to mount inside the can, plug in the card, and point around looking for routers or just point it at yours.

For wireless G, you can use something called WDS mode, which links two wireless routers together, but also permits clients at each.

Most third party firmwares support this capability (dd-wrt, tomato, etc.).
