For street or track?

I know cook switched to an SM610 after I bought his Gixxer 1k and he only lasted a few months on it before giving up on it but that was street IIRC, he can explain better.

I am a fan of the LC4 KTM Big Single

KTM for the street hands down. But for teh track I woudl stay away from the KTM's. Just from personal experience. I loved my 625 KTM for the street and also loved Bugs 690 when I rode it and also his Superduke. On the otherhand my race sumo the 450 SMR KTM was bone stock and blew apart after 10 hours. KTM covered it under good faith though because they knew there was an issue with the 450's back in the day.

Just FYI I love my Hypermotard and I don't think I will get rid of it anytime soon. It is my favorite bike for the street out of the 23 bikes I have owned.

I plan to use it for street. The KTM seem to be a lot more to buy and expensive to repair.
If I do track , I will use the KLX.

To be honest Stan, the KTM LC4 for street is GREAT - The 690 or even 625 (if the 625 is street legal) is an awesome bike

The SMC would be my single of choice should I ever go back to SuMo Street

Eddie the 625 is the bike KTM had before the 690. It is street legal. It has the LC4 engine.

Just FYI though the 690 cost alot more that the 625 though. When it first came out and I saw the price tag I thought there is no way they are going to sell these things.

Gotcha - They have come down in price now - You can find a PERFECT 690 SMC for $5K all day long

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ktm-6...item20baf703e5

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BEAUT...#ht_500wt_1182

Give 'em a few months and when winter hits, $5K will take either

I've only had one short ride on Bug's/Elroy's 690, but I loved it. It felt like a big race tard, but lighter still than a DRZ. with the used prices of 690s dropping like rocks I may pick one up in the next year or two for a commuter.

The 690 was about 330 Dry from the Factory - With the Stock Exhaust swapped out and full Leo put on, it was prob about 310 - Heavier than the Race DRZ but about the same of a stock - Prob felt lighter as the 690 had 63 bhp vs the DRZ high 40s

I think the SM/SMC's are around 325-330 wet (KTM is typically pretty close with their advertised weight specs). So basically the same static weight as a stock DRZ SM. The 690E is around 305 without gas. Bug's 690SM definitely handled lighter than my old DRZ SM's, which isn't saying much since the DRZ has a 10lb flywheel and a crank and rod sourced from John Deere.

Look into a plated XR650R
275lbs and affordable.

Can't believe How often Honda drops the ball. With that bike they could have stole this market.

I would guess their reasoning is that it's not nearly a big enough market to bother trying to make the BRP 50-state street legal, and source all of the needed SM parts. If they ever would have made a sumo, it probably would have come from the 650L.

SM is a niche, hence the niche brands.
