Road America - 2hrs
USAir - Schawno Wisc - 5 hrs

Badger and Sugar River are both so small they are not even really fun

95% of the track days are at RA but we are planning a Shawno Weekend to ride all Sat and Sun as that track is pretty much World Class when it comes to SM

After briefly talking to Bug, I am now interested in doing a track day. I have a bunch of questions and I'd be the slowest guy out there but I'd have the biggest grin on my face!

I have a truck so I could always haul a bike if someone needed, although I would suggest driving your own car since my huge dog takes up most of the room in the cab.

Dont listen to Bug.... Badger and Sugar River are both super fun tracks but smaller then the other tracks. and they are both closest to chi! you just need proper gearing for them!
Shawano is supermoto Heaven! one of the best sm tracks in the country, New Castle in IN is another epic track!

Kart guys don't allow bikes at Springfield anymore unfortunately.
that place was even more laid back than Norway.

there's a couple tracks in IND.
Whiteland Raceway just south of Indy, and New Castle East of Indy on 70.

also two tracks and two street races in MI:

BS sugar river is fun, you just gotta be in shape to ride 20 laps in a row, + its only a hr from my work, starting next month 2nd - 4th thursday of the month from about 4pm -830pm is open ride - $20 fun time i usually do about 80 laps and and wiped by 730pm, lap times i pull are about 38-40 secs lots of turns and tight but a great way to get in sumo shape and practice carrying corner speed.

Yeah Steve, you can't put a tease like that out without following up pretty quick. You might even be able to get Bill and I back on a bike this year if you can make that happen.

(Bill, you are welcome to my spare set of wheels at any point this year if you want them, you just need to get an adapter bracket for the radial brakes you have, unless you sold them already)

I have some friends here at work that go down there for some kart stuff every once in a while too, I've been asking them to put in a good word for us and get us back on the track again.

Ok here is the deal from what I was told by coworker. Les the dad owns the land and let his son Andy run the track while Les was just a "Track Official". Well Les and Andy got into a huge blowout and Andy fired his dad Les. Well since Les owned the land and Andy supposedly live on the land Les kicked Andy off the land and is no longer allowed on it. Now A gentalmen Gary Lowball (I think that is the spelling of his last name) now runs the place. I was told that we need to go there as a group and ask this guy if we can ride there.

Who is up for talking to this guy. We have to show him that we are responsible and can police ourselves on keeping the noise down. If it means run stock canisters then so be it. What do you think???

I bought a rear wheel a few weeks ago off ebay for $200.
been looking for a used front, but no luck so far. Munn's is selling the hardparts wheels really cheap, so I may just buy a new one.
I still have the forks from the Berg too.

He moved to China.

He took a 3 year assignment with Fiat over there to help them set up their operations starting last fall. He was back in town a couple weeks ago, I guess he ran into Ed at some restaurant downtown.

I think he figured that since no one could understand what he was saying around here anyway, why not go to China where he won't understand them also. He's thinking that he will be back in the Chicago area when this assignment ends.

Cool. I ran the Berg forks on that thing once. It worked pretty good, you just have to run them pretty low in the clamps to make up for not having a shortened SM style shock.

Most of the karts were quieter than the bikes. Even a 4T bike with a stock MX exhaust is louder than the almost all of the 2T 125 karts. Measured with a Db meter, not just guessing.
Plus the 4t sound carries farther due to the longer wavelength.

this is what they posted on their website back when they stopped allowing bikes.

In the past, we have been allowing motorcycles to practice here at CHMS. Unfortunately, we have had some complaints about the noise, and have been formally served notice from the county. We are no longer able to allow bikes on the track. If this changes, we will let you know here as well as through some of the bike groups in the region.

if you could keep the bikes at or below the sound level of the karts, I'd say you've got a shot. that would be a tough task though.
