Supermoto Race at Soldier Field June 22 ?!?!?!?

Roman,

How could this be announced and you not be all over it? Am I reading this right, or am I hallucinating?

http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showt...rtner-for-2013

StadiumSuperTrucks.com

For those that want the cliff notes without joining SMJ or clicking on the link, it looks like USA Pro SM made a deal with Robby Gordan's new Stadium Truck race series that will be coming to Soldier Field. Okay, yes it is a sideshow for a truck race, but it is supposed to be at Soldier Field June 22!

A chance to ride in and around Soldier Field might get this fat out of shape used to be somewhat not too slow guy off his ass to beg people to let him be a backmarker!

looks like I'm going to miss it anyway. I'm going to be in FL that week. I thought we got back Friday, but we don't come back until Saturday afternoon. If it's an evening show, I think I'll still try to get over there to watch.

pretty cool!
I saw some of the LA truck race on TV a few weeks ago. basically the SM version of a trophy truck race. the track they had setup would have been very tough/risky on a bike!

I just sent an email to the guy that is running USA Pro SM. He said that they won't know for sure which other rounds they will run until after the San Diego race on 5/18. He said that Soldier Field was actually not too likely for this year at least...

Sounds like this kind of racing with SM as a sidebar....

I watched the first San Diego round on NBC Sports this weekend. Super sketchy is an understatement to describe the track they were running. The cross over jumps definitely require some commitment since they were jumping over 2 lanes of the track without anything to stop you from coming up short.

I'm impressed by the temporary paving job that they are bringing into these stadiums, but I really don't know what type of tire the guys will want to run. It is more like a rough MX track with 2 paved turns / jumps, than an SM track. I would probably run full MX wheels and suspension rather than SM if the tracks are going to be like the San Diego one was.

I'm still intrigued to see how this weekend's event goes out there...

Hey Guys,

I just saw on SMJ and USA PRO SM, that this is confirmed! There will be a Supermoto Race in SOLDIER FIELD in 1 month!

The pictures from the San Diego race look pretty cool!

http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showt...-2013-Schedule

http://www.usaprosupermoto.com/

I've got an email in to the USA Pro folks for some more details, but this should be cool!

It looks like they have cancelled the race at Shawano that was to be the weekend before. I'm not sure how that will affect what the NWGP guys are going to do. It is a little bit of a bummer for them, but overall for the sport this has a chance to be a huge break and turnaround to get it flowing again!

I get back from Fla at 2pm the afternoon of the race, but I'm going to try to make it down there for the evening. I'll post up more details as I get them.

they are all running rains tires - track looks like the old 70s-80s sx-tt tracks - its not sumo and some of those jumps are do or die, i dont think too many guys we know will be doing this race or will qualify. any fast mxer who knows how to ride will do good on that track.

Come on man, dont tell me your thinking sumo is gonna get big again! Its dead and wont ever be what it was! when SBK2 shuts down and stops doing races - it kinda says alot. NWGP had a shit turnout the last race, i hope they get more people as it might go the way of SBK2 if they dont get more numbers.

I have no delusions that SM is going to come back real big, but this could be really good exposure that could bring back some level of interest. I know for me, I'm not really all that interested in driving 3-4 hrs up to RA and Shawano anymore, especially not on a Holiday weekend with family commitments. However, if I knew that there was a chance that I could use that series to help get me back into shape to get a chance to race at Soldier Field, the interest would go up. I think if this thing picks up and gets announced early for next year, you will see a lot of decent to top level local MX and Flat Track guys starting to do that again just like we had back in 2004-2007.

It sucks that SBK2 had to shut down, and I hope the NWGP can find a way to keep it going. I don't know anybody that has ever tried SM racing (even SM bikes on the street), that didn't have a blast with it, but it still just doesn't come across very well for some reason.

I think MISupermoto si down to only (2) tracks and a handful of races too - The closed the tracks to SM in Minn as well (from what i remember)

So who locally is racing this??? I wish I could but my strengths are ont he pavement and there is not much there. I would get killed and embarressed on the dirt sections so there is no way I would finish in a good position.

I am going to bring my kids out to watch.

From what I can tell and seeing as it is a J Sears Production, my guess is that the cats who are running the Pro Series are using these weekends as fillers - I would also think that you could prob just show up and attempt to Qualify - Not sure if you need an AMA License as i don't think it is AMA Sanctioned

I may roll the HD Down and check it out

I thought I read somewhere that all the supertruck rounds were invitation only....
But I'm sure if you were a local pro/expert that wanted to race you could probably get on the list.

Yes i am positive! My boy from CA Tim is racing it and Monte also.
The reason that this is invitation only is because this rounds are a test and trial for next season.

Monte is leaving his rig at my crib after the LOTW and flying back home, i will snatch him up for the chi race.

I tried to convince Robert Loire to ride, told him he can have my bike and roll, but I don't think he is going to do it. He is graduating from college on the 15th and is still interviewing all over the place trying to get a real job.

I wonder if Mitch is going to get anybody to come out on one of his HMC prepped SMR's? Isn't the AMA RR series running that same weekend down in Alabama? That would take Benny Carlson off the list.
