I must do this. I deleted just about everything and I only have 30gb on my old fatty available. I just downloaded Vanquish for free as a PS+ member and while I love it I had to spend some serious time cleaning out old games to make way for the 12gb Vanquish takes up.

its easy once you get the backup figured out, i keep gopro videos on the ps3 so it fills up fast, 500gb gives you some free space to work with

Is there a goto resource page on how this is done? I've found them in the past but didn't do it so I've lost them. I know the trickiest physical issue are the screws since they can be stripped fairly easily.

The trickiest technical issue is saving your content. I've nearly stripped my PS3 down to the bone. I deleted a lot of my content but I have a million Fallout New Vegas game saves and I plan to use them to get all the trophies at some point. I just reached about 70% trophy completion and decided to save the rest when I get the itch to play Fallout again. I've beat the game in all possible outcomes but I still have a few DLC modules to finish. I would already have a platinum if I had not allowed the patches to be installed but along with the patches come the trophies for the DLC so in avoiding the bugs I extended the time to platinum.

I guess, I would need to buy a portable HD and copy all the game saves to that. I probably need to buy a portable anyway since I'll be moving jobs soon and need to pack my data.

So that would basically allow you to store files on the PC, and stream to the PS3?

Yup, that's what I have been doing for a couple years between all the ps3s in home.

ps3 is best i have found for viewing gopro videos, i store some in the ps3 hd so i can view anytime, the tricky part of backing up the ps3 is that the usb hd you buy needs to be converted from FSTS? to FAT 32 , i used a program from cnet called swiss knife, worked fine no trouble, i foung several webpages that walk you through it, some older writeups warn against a big hd or 7200 rpm, but any laptop hd should work, my 500gb works just fine, it takes about an hour for the ps3 to backup on the new usb drive and about the same time to restore info from the usb drive to the new internal hd , and mine had only 26gb to work on , physically the swap is easy, use a good small phillips and no troubles
