If you can find a 60gb version buy it. There are some still around unopened. Basically (with the 60gb), you pay the extra $100 because you are also getting a fully chipped PS2 which still retails for $130.

The 80gb version has an emmulator but it will play 90% of the PS2 games. The exception is the $10 games on purple discs that you find around the holidays near the checkout counters (meaning Wheel of Furtune).

So again you are basically getting 3 systems a PS1, PS2, and PS3 for an extra $100. Its worth it if you already have games you'd go back and play.

Oh if you decide to get the 40gb version I believe you will be able to play any game you can download from the PS Store or Home. I just bought R-Type 1 and 2 for the PS1 and I can play it on both my PS3 and my PSP.

A fucktard is more intelligent than the combination of Sony and Microsoft.

It still is a fucking dumbass idea. They could had eliminated the wifi from the 40gb version (which is what pretty much every store around here sells and stocks anyways). Hell drop teh blu-ray from the 40. Theres no reason that these shouldnt be backwards compatible to the old systems anyways especially for $400+ for the console.

+1.. The only difference with the systems should be the HD. I also think the 40 gb will not output 1080p or it lacks HDMI or something.

Actually there is good reason. They have to specifically go out of their way to do so. Two specific chips need to be added to the system or at least one chip and the other emulated in order for it to work. So they did that, then they decided that people may not care about ps2 games or may already have a ps2 and want a 100$ off the system in exchange for no backwards compatibility. Smart move if you ask me.

The only issue is that they stoped producing 60gb's and 80gb's for north america for a few months because they wanted to move the units out of the way for the next package deal. Which is not just rumored btw. It's Metal Gear Solid 4 + PS3 which will be in an exclusive color.

That's really the only issue that I have is that for the last few months there haven't been 80gb's around and they phased out the 60gb's entirely to make it easier on people ie. Only a 40gb and a 60gb.

Misinformation is killing Sony I swear... This is completely untrue and what makes it worse is people on the floor at your Best Buy's and Gamestops are just as ill informed.

There are only two major differences between the 40gb and the 80gb. The first is that the 40gb does not have any backwards compatibility whereas the 80gb does. The second is that the 40gb will not support SACD's. Likely you don't even know what SACD's are and they are very few and far between so it doesn't even matter. The only other difference is the 40gb has 2 USB ports and the 80gb has 4... which doesn't matter since you can use any usb hub to give yourself however many you want.

This has a general table for the differences...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3

and this is what a SACD is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD

You have to go out of your way to buy one so it's not like you'll accidently find out you have a SACD so don't worry about it. It's just another ridiculous format that nobody wants to use.

From what I hear they did extensive consumer research/surveys which indicated that people favored price over backwards compatability. Wait until June to buy one if that matters to you.

Korrect,

June 12th is when the ps3 80gb bundle gets released with MGS4 and the DS3.

The hard drive space is used for saving games, videos, demos, and other content. You will need that hard drive space and the priority lies in NEW games.

Not old games.

What happened to the old console you played your old games on?

+1 Thats business baby... You know there were plenty of people that dropped an extra hundo just so they can have that feature. I just have my PS2 still hooked up, but still havent even used it since the PS3 purchase.

Although rumor has it that most stores have sold out of their pre-orders for this bundle. I can't imagine Sony wouldn't do something special for the 4th quarter '08 season though.

Did you all hear that PS3 outsold xBox 360 starting in Feb this year?

Ever since the victory of BR we are now a great system for the whole family.
parents get the best HD blu ray and kids get their gaming system. then they just need to fight over who gets to use it when.

Define pre orders? you mean the store ordering from sony? or pre orders from customers because I dont know of Any store that pre orders systems anymore because of the WII fiasco. (overpromising underdelivering)

One of the many reasons that Sony no longer gets my money. I loathe that company now.

Dude, GameStop still pre-orders Wiis at least on the web, they only promise them for delivery like a month or two in the future. As for the PS3, I'm going by EGM's (the game magazine) and the Official Playstation Mag's comments.

So I guess what might be happening is that gaming specific stores are done taking pre-orders but places like Best Buy and Circuit City halted that policy and so you might have a chance at picking one up there if you get a choice spot in line before the release. I'm not doing that idiocy again like I did for months with the Wii.

Didn't the PS3 just outsell the 360 for the month of January? I can't find recent total console sales, but I did see that the PS3 sold more than the 360 for the first time this January.

Sony could afford to market the PS3 to older adults as a BR player. My father in law just dropped major coin on a new TV, stand, etc but when he went to add the BR player ABT told him that because Sony won this battle all the decent BR players were back ordered till June.

I asked him how much he planned to spend on his back ordered player and he said $400. When I told him he could buy a PS3 for the same price right now and be assured of the updates he said he wasn't going to ever play games.

People like this could be a major player for Sony if they could only get it into their heads that the system will be their BR player too. I suppose it doesn't help that ABT doesn't sell PS3s too (or maybe they do?).

I do see a lot of Circuit City and Best Buy ads that package TVs and PS3s for decent prices though so maybe they are just targeting the usual outlets.
