Talking Post Ladies First Track Day 7.1.11

Realized there was no Post Ladies First track day thread so here it is

Awesome day!

I can definitely see why I cried at this track back in 07, and it being my first track day ever on a brand new bike I can't wait to compare my pics, waiting on my cd from Heavy Penny Photo.

12 turns and 10 of them are blind I couldn't even remember how to pit in and out....I think I just mentally blocked out that day back in 07. But Tea towed me around and each session got better and better!

We did get some rain in the afternoon which SUCKED, dried up I did one more session then more rain...it was then 4:00 so it wasn't gonna dry to get another session. I missed my 2-up session with David

Saw LOTS of girls with the rental leathers so glad the ladies are taking advantage of that.

According to Christi we had about 50 girls, 51 or 52 to be exact....no idea where they all came from but it was an awesome experience!! Just a totally different vibe from regular track days.

Also saw lots of guys helping the ladies, so that was awesome to see as well.

And wow, all the raffles and prizes were AWESOME!! A few of our girls won something. I got some new hand grips for the bike, just need to find someone to put them on

And only 1 red flag the entire day! And not sure why the red flagged it, she was ok and just standing on the other side of the guard rail waiting!

I have some pics at home and will get them up later!!

Jeff got some great pics too!

Ranch!

Gotta get Vicky out there! I think I am gonna put mood lights in my trailer remodel after all.

Yeah, Richard, Todd, and Burton. LOL. I think T and Burton were technically coaching in I or A, and Richard is the owner, so he can do whatever the heck he wants.

Oh, and those shots of T3 make it look SO steep! Crazy!

That day made me remember how much fun Grattan is, so much so, I'm trying to finagle my way into going again at the end of the month. I really really really want to ride it CCW. Finally get to use the left side of the tire.

The most terrifying track day of my life!

I have to go back so it doesn't mess with my head forever. LOL

Great time off the track though. My travel companions, Shelly & Marr make everything fun!

OMG that track is so much FUN! It's like a roller coaster, I love it!
Coming up to turn 5 and going over that little jump, I kept saying "Weeeee!!!" and giggling like an idiot. It was awesome.

Dani, we should have an outing to Great America or Cedar Point and you'll be totally okay with Grattan.

Aww, thanks Nick!!

This was a really fun day. No pressure, just went out to have fun with the girls. I traveled with Jen (Truckstop) and Tea (Supergirl) from IL to MI on Thursday night. Even getting stuck in traffic that made our 4 hour journey into a 6 hour journey wasn't bad. Plenty of conversation, stories, and track talk. Surprisingly we didn't exchange any hair or makeup tips the whole ride. Instead we talked about the finer points of downshifting (slipper clutches RULE), trail braking, and heard great stories from Tea about the Pridmore school.

Once we unloaded the bikes into our rented garage at Grattan (a great way to spend $30), pulled the wheels off Jen's bike so she could get new rubber for the morning, and visited a little, we headed off to my parent's house in Grand Rapids.

My folks fed us dinner, showed the girls a bunch of embarrassing photos from my youth (thanks Mom ), and then we went off to bed. Got a hot shower, good night's sleep, and breakfast and then we headed back to the track.

The vibe in the paddock was really great - lots of helpful friendly people. And being a woman in the sport for almost 6 years of track riding, it was the first time I had ever been on track with more women than men. Definitely a fun and different experience.

One of my favorite quotes of the day was from one of the corner workers at lunch. I was walking by and heard him say to another guy, "There seem to be a LOT of girls out there today!" The other guy said "Dude, they're ALL girls."

Despite the rain I was able to get in 3 really fun sessions and a 2-up ride with David Gray who was "servicing" the women all day (his words, not mine ). That guy rode his own sessions AND 2-up sessions all day. I don't think he took a break except for lunch. Rockstar for sure.

Once the day was done, Jen, Tea, and I packed our stuff up to make the long trek back to IL for the BHF weekend on Sat/Sun. The ride home was just as fun as the ride up.

Thanks girls and STT for a fantastic event!!

The girls that attended "Ladies First" with Sportbike Track Time were from all over the place. A lot of Grattan locals, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and more. Even from from Cape Cod!

A lot of the girls on this website are local to Chicagoland and there are some beyond also.

Many of us see each other often at the track, at parties, we get together to go shopping or to movies, dinners, and on street rides.
