Is that Kim on the 29 bike?
Excellent form and you can see that her eyes are fixed down track
Aww, thanks Nick!!
This was a really fun day. No pressure, just went out to have fun with the girls. I traveled with Jen (Truckstop) and Tea (Supergirl) from IL to MI on Thursday night. Even getting stuck in traffic that made our 4 hour journey into a 6 hour journey wasn't bad. Plenty of conversation, stories, and track talk. Surprisingly we didn't exchange any hair or makeup tips the whole ride. Instead we talked about the finer points of downshifting (slipper clutches RULE), trail braking, and heard great stories from Tea about the Pridmore school.
Once we unloaded the bikes into our rented garage at Grattan (a great way to spend $30), pulled the wheels off Jen's bike so she could get new rubber for the morning, and visited a little, we headed off to my parent's house in Grand Rapids.
My folks fed us dinner, showed the girls a bunch of embarrassing photos from my youth (thanks Mom
), and then we went off to bed. Got a hot shower, good night's sleep, and breakfast and then we headed back to the track.
The vibe in the paddock was really great - lots of helpful friendly people. And being a woman in the sport for almost 6 years of track riding, it was the first time I had ever been on track with more women than men. Definitely a fun and different experience.
One of my favorite quotes of the day was from one of the corner workers at lunch. I was walking by and heard him say to another guy, "There seem to be a LOT of girls out there today!" The other guy said "Dude, they're ALL girls."
Despite the rain I was able to get in 3 really fun sessions and a 2-up ride with David Gray who was "servicing" the women all day (his words, not mine
). That guy rode his own sessions AND 2-up sessions all day. I don't think he took a break except for lunch. Rockstar for sure.
Once the day was done, Jen, Tea, and I packed our stuff up to make the long trek back to IL for the BHF weekend on Sat/Sun. The ride home was just as fun as the ride up.
Thanks girls and STT for a fantastic event!!
