trackday at Road America this Thursday 6/4/09

I just checked the weather for Thursday in Elkhart Lake and it says 0% chance for rain, though it will be a little cool at a high of 70. Regardless, I signed up for the trackday. Is anybody here going on Thursday? I believe it will be just me and my bulldog Augie for now

I like the concept, but that doesn't become "effective" until June 8th. I'm guessing there will still be some Pro's out there. I wouldn't blame them for making the most of it. They'd be in Advanced anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is.

Unless they're stuffing the trackday people in the corners, and rubbing through the turns.

I wish I could go, but I'm my track account is pretty empty, and I'll be leaving for Florida in a week. I don't want to risk crashing and ruin the diving/vacation.

The pros and trackday riders wont be on the track at the same time, they'll be alternating sessions, and yes, the no extra practice thing isn't in effect until after Road America.

No STT membership fee, and it's a max-time-ish sort of format so it's open to I and A level riders - $175

Based on STT website:
"Max-Time: Intermediate and Advanced riders in an “open track” combined format. These events will start with a 15-minute session for each group allowing riders to warm up and then switch to an open-track format where you may come and go as you please. IMPORTANT: The Max-Time format is exclusively for experienced “I” and “A” group riders."

Doesn't this mean open track all day? Only questioning because I thought there were no sessions beside the morning one's. I want to go, but short on $$$$$$.

I could be mistaken, (I'm going through old emails to double check) but it's my understanding that it will be a modified Max-time format, trackday riders in one group, the pros in the other. From the event registration page:

THURSDAY
JUNE 4th, 2009
RIDE WITH THE PROS - MAX TIME FORMAT
MEMBERSHIP NOT REQUIRED
LUNCH NOT INCLUDED

NO AMA COMPETITORS IN TRACKDAY CLASS
COMPETITORS CALL THE TRACK TO ENROLL

This is how it worked at Barber in April:

"We have the track to ourselves from 9-11am Thursday, we will run our "max time" format, meaning "open" track for all STT riders with a checker flag being thrown every half hour so we don't have any "hero's" out there. You can then go immediately back out if you wish.

Lunch from 11-12 pm. Not supplied by STT, but the concession stand will be open all day.

Afternoon we will split our track time with two AMA pro groups and should have a good four or five sessions after lunch."
