Final Fantasy XIII

Anyone else getting this game? It's officially released tomorrow March 9th, however, Gamestop is doing a 12 am opening tonight. I'm pondering heading over there to preorder after work....

They close up shop tonight at 10pm and reopen for the n3rds at 12. I'll be at the one by University Village in the plaza with the Walgreens and Dominicks on Roosevelt rd.

Shit looks bomb!

I'll probably get it this weekend when I get home. Probably best that I'm in Columbus this week and have to wait, otherwise I'd have a lot of late nights this week.

I'm interested to see what this is in the game:

Action figure thingy of sisters that turn into a motorcycle.

"In Final Fantasy XIII, Snow Villiers gains the power of the Shiva Motorcycle as his Eidolon. After becoming a l'Cie, Snow gains the power to summon the Shiva Sister Eidolons, Nix and Styria, who can combine into a motorcycle form for Snow to ride, and is equipped with a large gun to fire. The first transforming Play Arts -Kai- figure set is a faithful adaptation of that Shiva motorcycle from Final Fantasy XIII, and it conceals a number of stunning surprises. The Play Arts -Kai- Shiva motorcycle figure set unfolds into two oversized figures - The Shiva Sisters, Styria & Nix. This unique set is unparalleled in quality, size and detail."

I liked FFXII better, which I admit was the first and only of the series that I've played. I'm up to Chapter 10 already. It's *so* linear! Part of what I loved about the last game was that you do a lot of exploring, and there's a lot of side missions, and you get a sense of progress when you go through an area you've been before and kill something with one swipe that used to give you trouble. I'm not really into just killing stuff.

This game there's only one direction, forward, and the killing stuff gets so repetitive.

That all said I really dig the characters and the story. It's really a beautiful game. I have a teeny amount of experience with game development so I'll often stand and look around at stuff because the amount of time put into the scenery is incredible. I'm curious to see what it looks like on PS3 because I keep reading that the graphics are so much better than XBox.

I'm getting used to the Paradigm Shifts and doing it quickly, but I also miss the old way of character building, and being able to control individual auto actions, so a character could be part medic, part saboteur all in one, not either or depending on paradigm.

I must be digging it because I'm nearly 30 hours in.

Also, I think I finally need glasses. I can't read anything on the screen without blinking or squinting, for any game.

FFVI was the pinnacle, it will never get better than that game. I don't mean just the FF series, FFVI was the greatest video game of all time.

Do you know if it's available for PS2? I've been thinking about backtracking in the series but didn't know where to start.

Also, (I'm so not a gamer, but get sucked into stuff from time to time) anyone have recommendations for games that are similar in gameplay to the FF series? We have a PS2, Wii, and a XBox. I've played and really liked Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii as well. I watched X play Call of Doodie for a while and like I said, have zero interest in shooting games.

They made it for PSOne but that'll work on PS2 as well. It is a long game and the graphics are nothing special by today's standards but HOLY HELL is the storyline awesome and compelling. If I could only play one video game for the rest of my life, it would be FFVI, no question.

I liked KOTOR 2 on XBox too.

I think you mean FFVII? FF7 for the Playstation was light-years better than previous versions of the game. I saw FFXIII the other day at a friends house and thought it looked nice, but reminded me of the same boring run-around-and-buy-milk-and-eggs-and-fight-random-monsters gameplay of FFVII. I haven't played any of the games in between, but I do remember spending hours after class on FFVII.

Negative. FFVI in Japan, FFIII in the USA. For the SNES, bar none, greatest video game of all time.

I just hope they remake FF6 and/or FF7 soon.

After FF8 I couldn't get back into the series... did not like FF9 at all.
