Cool Need to extend cables. options?

Hi,

my problem:

i need to connect PS3 and XBOX to a tuner to which a projector is connected so i can get some audio.

the tuner doesn't have HDMI, so i have to go 'the old way' with RCA.

i bought some RCA extenders, but i was wondering if there really is a HDMI to component cable, 8 or 10 feet so i could connect hdmi to hdmi (extend) and use component on the tuner. tuner has component and composite.

any other options?

i need about 15 feet of cable length

thank you!!

t.

This is confusing.

there is no easy way to convert component video to hdmi.

This.

Assuming your projector is HD, then you are ok for picture and just using RCA for sound will be fine.

No, you can't cheaply buy a connector to go from component (analog) to hdmi (digital). It won't look or sound any better either. They do sell boxes that will convert that for you, but it doesn't really make sense to do that in this scenario.

but how do i get an audio from the xbox or ps3?

there is either HDMI or the native connector whose cable ends in RCA?

so, is RCA extenders a way to go? RCA directly to the tuner?

Vcook,

projector is connected to the tuner via component (red green blue). speakers are connected to the tuner as well as DVDs etc.

the tuner doesn't have HDMI, but rather component and composite.
XBOX and PS3 can do either HDMI or composite (yellow red white).

connecting HDMI to the projector doesn't give me sound.

so i have to connect the consoles to the tuner. another problem, cables are too short :|

yeah, it's complicated...

Does the tuner do component video switching? If so running component video through the tuner, then component out to the projector is ideal. Run either optical audio from the consoles or RCA analog audio from the consoles for sound.

well, i thought if there is HDMI to component cable, i could use just one cable and share the hdmi part between the xbox and ps3. the info on the internet about it is confusing. some people say there is a cable, some say ther is not.. so i figured i'd ask the experts ;-))

if you have an hdmi out get a hdmi to dvi converter - they are a few bucks - for audio run rca cables or toslink if it's available
should be rather easy

there is no component from the xbox or ps3. either HDMI or their connector that ends in RCA. no separate audio. at least i don't see it.

projector is connected to the tuner via component.

xbox360 has always supported component video along with analog audio and toslink optical. I imagine ps3 is similar.

why do you need 15 feet? wont the consoles live right by the tuner? use the tuner as a video switcher!

This or go to monoprice and get yourself a 10 foot hdmi cable, a hdmi port saver and the PS3 hdmi to component cable and you will be set.

Greg,

my first question is

is there a HDMI to component cable. the answer seems to be NO.

the above cable from best buy is not HDMI, it's PS3 to component.

I found a couple, but their reviews sucked. I appologize, I do not have a PS3 and was not aware that the PS3 connector i linked to before was not a standard hdmi.

What type of connector(s) do you have now?

In this instance, since the lack of quality hdmi to component, I would upgrade the standard connectors from composite to component and then extend them to the needed length.

OR

Buy a new receiver, Christmas is around the corner, ask Santa for one. :-)

I have two HDMI cables. that's how i used to connect them to the TV.

i also have (see pic number one) cables with console native connectors on one side and RCA on the other. thus i thought extending the RCA to the tuner.

figured i'd ask if there is a better option.

if there was an HDMI to component. i would use one HDMI cable that would be plugged into either ps3 or xbox. and extend it with this fictional HDMI to component cable to go to the tuner. LOL

See post #20, that is all I got, well except for something that might not work, but I'd try it anyway. Try connecting the game to the projector with HDMI and then connect the audio via native/rca to the receiver. If both outputs are live and using one does not disconnect the other it will work, if not go back to my first sentance here.

Oh, and btw...both PS3 and XBox??? There are children starving in Engelwood.
