Star Wars: The Old Republic

Well, the NDA has been lifted and the final large scale beta is this weekend. If you had an account on the site prior to 11/11 you should be invited so check your email or just sign into swtor.com/tester and accept the invite if you are interested.

I'll be stepping away from BF3 all weekend for this, perhaps this will give me enough playtime to decide if I want to go Inquis or Agent.....

They are trying to cater to people like you. It is heavily story driven with aspects for casual and hard core mmo players from what i hear

they had a game better than WOW already, they ruined it
Starwars :Galaxies

how to ruin a successful MMO
1: revamp the entire combat system making everyones character basically start over
2: during the revmap ruin everyones equipment, weapons, armor
3: remove item decay, essentially killing the economy and driving away all crafters
4: open the jedi profession to anyone and make it easy to get
5: in a further effort to annoy: repeat step 2
6: watch playership decline precipitously
7: close down servers

ill be staying with World of Tanks

I quit WoW a year or so ago and haven't gone back. I guess the 3rd time was a charm. LOL I am in the Friday beta test group so I will post up when I get on a server.

Well, after a weekend of playing I will say this...... it didn't feel much like a beta and I believe the release that beta players see is a few releases behind the devs so launch should be fun.

I've been preordered since the day they allowed them via a weird website then through origin, I'm hoping for a 5 day early access but I'd settle for 4.

I pre-ordered back in July. Took the Friday & Monday around the Early Release weekend off as well.

All in all, I think Bioware did well with this past weekend's beta test. From what I've been seeing & hearing, they had issues and resolved them. Better that they do so now instead of on launch.

I'm in the beta again this weekend. :laughging Supposedly this is the last weekend beta before launch and will be with the new build that was just loaded to the servers this week. The forum posts say that they invited a significantly smaller amount of people this time but 3/4 people that I was on with last weekend got an invite for this weekend as well.

Anyone else in again this weekend?

Just because I’m feeling jacking some threads today, does anyone here know if the plans for the 7-9th movies are in the works or if that’s still even the plan for the Star Wars series?

I've decided to build a new gaming pc since I've been out of it for the last decade or so. Then I see this. I liked Galaxies when it came out but my pc at the time was to slow. This should be interesting since I won't see my wife for a long time.

Well all the betas are over and early access is now slated for the 13th. I hope I'm in the 13th or 14th considering I did order and input my code the day the preorders started but we will see. I will post up the server I end up on but I guarantee it is going to be PvP and not RP.

I'm still a little annoyed with some of the crew skills but we will see how it breaks down later in the game.

i see that there are three price ranges

player , fan , uber geek

on the uber geek one the only thing that really i saw was the uber geek only store. what is that store gonna sell and is it worth buying for the store. i would hate to play the game and be locked out of some cool stuff.

The increased price gets you in game goodies (like access to the VIP lounge) but nothing that you would really miss out on from my understanding unless you are truly an uber SW and MMO nerd. I got the digital standard edition because I don't care at all about in game goodies and as a matter of fact the "color crystal" that you get for preorder with any edition sucks anyway so I won't even use that.

Played in the Second to last Beta weekend. Got a 19 rebellion shadow jedi with space filght and a 11 imperial sniper.

All in all, I was incredibly "MEH" about the game, and coming from a MMO vet from back in EQ launch days and a comlpete Star Wars geek that's saying something.

My experience with beta was very craptastic. I think any major bug you could find I hit, and a bunch of them werent on the "known issues" list. Things like getting stuck in place in flashpoints, map icons dissapearing, AE looting breaking were some of the stupider ones.

The game will do well, but I won't be buying it. The story aspect and all the dialog is a pretty cool gimic. There's a little too much of it at the beginning when all I want to do is go out and kill shit. It's also going to be a HUGE PITA when you're doing the same FP for the 10x time and still have to spend 20 mins in conversations when all you want to do is go and kill shit.

I have no doubt they will have a bunch of the bugs squashed prior to release, lord knows the beta candidate is about 9 builds behind the release candidate anyway. So I expect a lot of good things.

But, with D3 mere months away, I don't see the point in starting all over againin a new MMO. I'll go back to WoW and kill Deathwing a few hundred more times.

Ciao,
Lupi

This game obviously isn't for everyone but it is a breath of fresh air for me having been out of WoW for probably a year now. You have to realize also this isn't EQ or WoW or even EVE..... this is a vast departure from what MMOs are doing now. Some will like it and some wont. I know a guy personally that canceled his preorder because he doesn't like it at all and we raided together in WoW.

I have to say the republic storyline is boooooooring. I leveled a JC up to 22, a SI up to 21 and a IA up to 18 ish. I had a lot more fun on the imperial side and that is the side I will play at launch.

There was also a large jump in what was fixed from the 2nd to last weekend (where they let just about everyone in) and the last weekend. The second to last weekend was more of a stress test on the servers than anything. The very last beta weekend was the most polished build obviously and a lot of the things you are addressing were fixed at that point including the most annoying to me which was the map bug.

I agree that the conversations in the first flashpoints (BT or Esseles) are very long but from what I've heard the subsequent FPs have much less conversation and can be burned through pretty quickly. Luckily I will be leveling as a healer with a heal/dps and a tank so we can skip all the dialogue and just burn through shit.

You do have one thing wrong though, the beta releases are 3 revs behind. Devs, internal testers, then fulltime beta/weekenders is the build order. But that being said there was a huge jump in build stability and bug fixes between the last 2 tests.

Also, looking at the history of all major MMOs, they ALL undergo a significant amount of rebalancing, tweaking, etc. in the first few months. Most don't even remember the clusterfuck that WoW was, when it was first launched. SWTOR will be no different, and the game we see now won't be quite the same after being live 3-6 months.
