Which Fighting Game?

I'm going to be building myself an arcade fighting stick with quality Japanese parts as a belated birthday present to myself. I'm probably going to put together a MAME computer, but I've been out of touch on Console Fighting Games.

I have a PS3, is there a fighting game that stands out above the rest? I used to be really good at Streetfighter II and Mortal Kombat up to III. But I've just not really played fighters since then.

What say you CLSB? I have a $50 Best Buy gift card to burn!

I dunno as far as old fighting jap game. Mortal combat all the way. I use to
Rule some of those Fucken combos. Ripping spines out and freezing someone into a block of ice was da bomb.

Still an awesome series that leaves your running around killing things and unlocking cooler ways to kill more things.

Awesomeness of the series is quite questionable, spent few hours and just couldn't get into it... that said, back to the topic

That does sound fun, Dean.

1/3 of the parts for building my stick showed up. I have the CPU and wiring, I'm waiting on the stick and buttons, and I still need to build the box to hold it all.

What stick did you buy? What platform are you playing on?

Oh, I wound up downloading Streetfighter III Third Strike Online edition for PS3. It was only $15 in the PS3 store.

I played through a couple rounds with the regular controller and just couldn't play anymore. Button mashing on a pad is not playing a fighting game IMHO.

If I don't fuck up my box, I could probably build you one as well. Or I have a PS2 based Pelican "Real Arcade" controller that I used for MAME with a USB adapter. I'm thinking about putting a PS3/PC CPU in there and just using the stock buttons. The stick is nice, it just needs more modern controller circuit inside.

Let me know if you've got any MAME resources. I've been considering doing this again.

Greg, I'm working on that as well. If I have time this winter, I might make a bar top MAME machine. I have a 165Gig MAME archive I recently downloaded, but I've not researched the overlays and all that.

The controllers I'm building will also work on MAME.

Wow, this one actually put an avatar in.

On a positive note, the last of my parts arrived from Japan yesterday. So I'm going to start cutting wood to build my first custom controller!

Inu, PM me what parts you have, and I'll make sure the jigs I make will work with your parts as well.

If your looking into old school fighting with current gen, "Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition".

It's the definitive version that's used in all the competitions. If your and old school tournament follower, google street fighter 4 and diego. Their is an epic standoff where diego blocks every one of Chun Li's Shotgun Kicks and finishes the match w his Super Uppercut.

By the way thats one of the scenarios you can relive as they have famous 'tournament scenarios' in this edition of sf4.

It's $20 new at gamestop right now and you can find matches 24 hours a day on the PSN or Xbox network.

If you do get this game make sure you get the right one. Capcom's greedy ass has released 3 editions of this game. Make sure you get the one they released last!

If you don't care about 'depth', you can get 1 of the dragon ball fighting games that is out for PS3 or XBOX.

If you want weapons, get soul caliber. It's worth getting at its current price just to get beat up by ivy in 1080p. Physics is a beautiful thing. Note new one will be released soon so current one is cheap.

Tekken is in between SF4 and Soul Caliber in variety. It's probably the 'funnest' game as it has the most variety in fighting styles.

If you have $50. I would get sf4 and soul caliber. You can rent tekken and see if it's your style.

I have just finished of playing ďCall of DutyĒ and it was pretty good game. It was totally different one with compared to other fighting games and I would name it as my favorite game because I liked the graphics and game features which was included in the game and it was an excited game for me.

You're like a few months too late. I wound up getting a couple different Street Fighters, and MK, and working on cutting my first custom wood controller (now that all the parts arrived from Japan). I also resurrected my old US made game controller that seems to work OK, but not nearly as "fast" as a Japanese controller.

I get these Korean logic boards that support PS3, XBOX, and PC with a little soldering. So much easier like hacking pads in the old days!

Thanks though my friend.
