I could be wrong about what you're trying to do. But some Xbox cables have an optical out. If your stereo has two optical ins, then couldn't you plug TV optical out to stereo in, and xbox optical out to other stereo in and then switch the stereo based on what you're using?

I'm not sure what your HDMI converter you have is being used for. HDMI carries both sound and video, so I guess you might be able to connect xbox hdmi to convertor, then convertor optical out to stereo and convertor video out to TV?

The stereo only has one optical in so i cant hook them both up. i have an old xbox w/o hd port. The converter enables HD but doesn't broadcast 5.1 so there is also an optical out on the converter device.

You can only use 1 device through opticial if there is only one optical input. You could get a swich box to switch between cables or manually switch the cables.

Since there is only one port and you need two I say time to upgrade from the THIB.

We might be able to help if you give us more info. List the inputs/outputs on each of your devices.

How are you wired now? What are you using to drive the stereo now? Cable box? What's taking the optical input? Might be a long shot but you mentioned the tv has optical out, maybe you can route all your inputs to the tv and then let it drive the stereo with the one optical out? Then do all the switching through the TV.
