Motion sickness while playing

Anyone else get sick while they are playing?

Any remedies?

Normally I don't get sick flying or driving in a car, etc. But when I play a video game like a first person shooter I get nauseous after 20 minutes.

No, but my girlfriend does. Of course she usually ends up in a corner spinning around staring at the floor or the sky wondering where the hell she is.

Yeah, same here. I never got motion sick in my life until i played COD4.

After exactly 20 minutes. I actually look to the side while waiting to respawn.
After that, i need to lay down for an hour in order to play another 20 minutes. I gave it up after doing some research and seeing that too many people had the same problem.

Try playing Battlefield2. I never got motion sick and the game is the awesomest FPS ever!!!!!

May want to try sitting further from your screen. When I first got my 50 inch, Halo was making me dizzy. COD has a much faster frame per second rate. I am fine with it now.

No problems in boats or planes.

But I play Medal of Honor for 30 minutes, and I feel sick.

I do only on certain games, mainly the darker, more suspenseful type fps games.

Try sitting at an angle from the screen. Or try changing the camera angle. (if that's possible) I have the same issues, from racing games. I do ok in the car, and on roller coasters. I don't do spinning stuff though. I can't play Mario cart, I'm trying to drive and watch for stuff coming at me, or the place of the other cars. That gets me sick everytime. I've never tried any of the shooting/fighting games.

I don't ride, I cook!

Yes!

I believe at least in my case it's related to two things:
  • I've noticed less problems with extremely high-end machines with enough power to scroll smoothly.
  • I believe some people are more sensitive to the fact that their combined senses that provide orientation information are overwhelmed by the sensory input from their eyes not matching head position and movement, body position, G-forces, etc. I think this could be similar to the sensations astronauts must train for in zero-G environments.

If you think about it, you've learned to decode and synthesize all of your sensory input as literally survival. It's largely so innate that you don't even give it a thought. When the sensory input doesn't match, your brain is telling you to remove yourself from the situation.

Oh, and for me at least, it seems to be only the first-person shooters that cause me problems.

I had it happen to me the first time I played Ace Combat on ps1. I ended up having a dream I was in a spin and then I woke up and threw up on my floor. Thats the only time I had it happen to me.
