Chat room?

I noticed that someone use this forum like a chat room and have added countless pages for B.S. not related. I was wounding how hard it would be to setup a chat room for those who just want to B.S?

I think Jeff is getting at having to weed through 9 pages of a thread to figure out what's going on. Similar to what Ken has already set up as guidelines to posting about group rides.

well, a lot of people have IM's , yet decide to bs on the site anyway. Don't think the chat room would make those people stop.

It really isn't a bad idea...If Tony or Ken were seriously interested in this, I would recommend the one provided by Bravenet. It's free and there's no coding or anything to add to your site. You just link to a webpage. The only requirement to using it is a Java enabled browser.

http://www.bravenet.com/webtools/chat/

Me and a friend have used it on a page in the past and it works fine. It's great for a freebie and opens in a new window so you can still surf the forums and flip between both screens.

Personally i do not like that idea. I've seen it get outa control in a bad way! People type faster than others, one question gets answered by 20 others and they post info thats lost cause oothers are posting as well.

I DEFINITLY cannot recommend this just because i SAW the problems with it.

Use IM. Its free and this way you can unclutter threads as well as still watching posts.

Maybe i am wrong but we will let The Powers That Be decide.

I've brought this up in the past. I still don't undersand why everyone is so worried that a chat room would take away from the forums. With so many memebers not everyone is going to just sit and chat. I've done the IM thing and have been doing it for a long time but it's alot easier to have a nice chatroom you can jump in when ever. For one you don't have to invite everyone to chat and if you don't know someone its a real good way to get to know them LIVE vs. posts. I personally like the idea alot. I might make a chatroom myself if this never happens here... I'll place a #Chicagolandsportbikes room on efnet in IRC and I'll just leave a bot in there 24/7 to reserve the name.

Great now I won't get any sleep

Chat rooms are ok, All you have to do is open an AOL chat of your own same name all the time.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

Hey guys I made a seperate chatroom in efnet called #ChicagolandSportbikes

If you want to jump in the chat do these steps.

1) Go here www.mirc.com and download the program.

2) Install and connect to any EFNET servers from the list. (Make sure you connect to a EFNET server or you'll be somewhere else)

3) Once connected type /join #ChicagolandSportbikes at the prompt. Then you'll be in a live chatroom and should see Oldskool in the room. If you don't see my nick, you're in the wrong place.

I will leave this on 24/7 unless my computer shuts down because of power outage or something. As long as someone is in the room it will always be there.

By the way... all this is free and there are 1000s of other channels(rooms) to check out.

This is a subject that has brought up many times before. I've never seen any advantage to it. and it leaves people out ofthe site. if the talking is done inthe forum itsthere forever and everyone can be inviolved in it, if a conversation happens in a chat room its gone in minutes and only a few see it. next thing ya know you have some poepl who only enter the chat room and some who only go in the forums. now the group is divided. I say this from experience. we've tried it in a few forums that I have been involved in over the years and it alwasy worked outthat way.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

If ya used DALNET, you could register a room for free, and it would stay there even if no one was there

I always thought it would be a cool feature when it came to last minute group rides. Live chat would work so much better than refreshing a forum or waiting for PM's.

Listen bro, if you'r gonna flame me, PM my ass...don't do it here. You clearly lack the ability to properly use forums, so you need to understand that if you have something like that to say, get some balls and PM me.

Don't bother the rest of the people on here with nonesense like that.

Thank you.
