First time here?

Would it be difficult to set up a "First time here?" link on the homepage? I figure it could be a quick run down on what this site is about, and what we generally stand for. I know we have all the sticky's about rules, but it's too easy to just jump into the active topics and skip them.

I for one have occasion to send TONS of people to this site that are just getting into sportbikes or tracktime etc. For me personally, the members here have helped me immesely toward improving my riding, and I know it can do the same for others. (not to mention the fringe benefit of meeting some great riding pals).

That said, I'd like for there to be a place (a welcome wagon if you will) for them to get comfy with what goes on here right off the bat.

My fear is that 20 minutes spent surfing the active topics these days will make them think we're all a bunch of whining pansies. Granted...some of us are, but let's not let the rotten fruit spoil the - whatever.

Better still, it would be a chance for first timers to see what works, and what don't. Then they have no excuse for trouble-making. If they want to join....great! If it's not their cup, then it won't take a month of bitching to figure it out.

...just a thought.

Also, I was thinking about putting an FAQ together and also some drawings of all the hand signals for group riding. Let me know if you would like and and I will write it.

Now this is a great idea. Kinda like a cheat sheet for group rides.

awww shucks...thanks all. I feel so special. Just like the time I got to ride the big bus to school (I found out later that the small one just broke down - details).

In addition to getting people accustomed to our little philosophy, we could offer them some other flavors should they decide they don't like ours.

For instance:

Wanna see how the pros get the ho's? www.stuntlife.com

Wanna tell the world how cool you are? Wanna piss and moan about oppressive Mods? www.cycleforums.com

Wanna see naked chicks? Search for "porn" at www.google.com

Wanna find some riding buddies for your next bar crawl? www.ABATE.com (just kidding to all the members out there)

Wanna meet cool people that love riding? Wanna take that extra second off your laptimes? Wanna find out what size widget fits your '93 GPZ? Stay here awhile... (ask Vcook about the widgets)

...etc.

Again, just a thought.
