Very scary crash in Perth's Aus V8 Supercar race.

First thing both drivers are ok. No major injuries.

Data loggers showed the impact was 37G's.

Story here.

Just freaking scary.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Damn.

What's with stalled start crashes down under? Same thing happened to Fabrizio a few years back (minus the fireball). http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=db8_1204489043

How in the fuck do these racers not see far e ough ahead to see a stalled car, at the start of the race, and not avoid it?!

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

Did you not watch the clip? The last driver didn't have any time to react as the cars in front of him moved to the side at the last moment.

Id think at full acceleration, concentrating on the car in front of you, and trying to look thru lexan windows, a huge rear wing, rollcage and a nice thick sun visor at the top of the windshield on the car in front, you prob cant see shit.

I agree. When the adrenaline gets flowing, it's hard to think aboutanything else but the checkered flag. I have done, and been hit, on circle tracks in this very situation.

There was a similar situation at Road America a few years ago during a flying start, where the starter didn't fly the green flag when the drivers thought she was going to (apparently a car had passed someone prior to the green flag flying). However, the back of the pack was still accelerating, and when they came over the hill on the start/finish strait they had no where to go. Something like 20+ cars were destroyed (including an FIA Cobra), but no one was seriously hurt. Scary stuff.

It is far better to be thought of as a smartass than an dumbass. And as American Humorist Robert Benchley (1889-1945) noted, "no matter how well-intended, any reply to a dumbass question will inevitably appear smartassed". - Bob Hall (creator of the Miata)
