Prius

Seriously considering buying one next year.

This car has a lot going for it: excellent efficiency, superb reliability, holds its MPG figures very well even after a decade.

Just cant face the fact that it will deliver twice the mileage as my bike.

Anyone own a Prius on the board? Feedback welcomed.

Got one as a loaner, and didn't mind it.

I have noticed that over 80% of Prius owners drive like asshats! I don't know if its a mentality that they're saving the earth, so they have a right to be a dick to everyone on the road, or what.

No offense to anyone who may own one, just a personal observation.

Toyota drivers in general for some reason drive extremely slow.

Also, watch the battery replacement on the hybrids. There's a reason 3 year old Priuses flood the used car lots.

Exactly.

And if you care about it, look up the actual carbon footprint of a Prius. All those batteries are terrible for the environment. A Prius actually does more damage to the environment than my Scion.

I feel bad for the majority of guys driving that I see driving a Prius. You can just see the defeat in their eyes about how much they hate their lives. They think back to the days of driving their muscle cars around, getting 8 mpg and loving every second of the tire shredding action.

Now they are stuck in this ecofriendly, hippy car that their wives forced them to get because they believe in the whole "being green" bullshit and lost all will to fight back, so have given up and all they have to live by is their memories.

So here's to you, defeated Prius driver, may you some day grow some balls and stand up to your wife.

What I love is the Civic sales compared with the Prius...why? ...because the Civic version looks just like the regular gas engined line while the Prius looks like an egg and stands out, speaking of course to my "Contradictory" thread

The batteries are designed to last over 10 years and in many cases they continue to perform strong even after.

Consumer report did a test with a 5 year old Prius with 200,000 miles. The MPG only went down from 50 to 44.

In another test, they took a 10 year old Prius. The MPG dropped by only 2. Again with original batteries.

In both cases, the over maintenance was minimal.

Another interesting point is that used Priuses hold their value extremely well.

You know actually now that the green movement novelty of the Prius has worn off and there's a solid supply of low mileage used options it's not bad at all. The purely electric jokes (the leaf and volt) have stolen that thunder and left in its wake a very reasonable option at a really decent price.

Were I not a fast food eating, trash throwing, CFC spewing red robed conservative I might jump on one myself

(just be wary of battery replacement )

for me to get a hybrid, i've got to see something like 70+ mpg. 50 isn't bad. my 4banger gets 30+.

you also have to consider what kind of driving you're gonna be doing... in the city? all highway? last time i checked (and it was a long time ago) the gas engine kicks in at like 50mph, so if you're doing mostly highway driving, i don't think you're putting the electric engine to good use.

also style wise, i like the cr-z and lexus' ct200h look sweet.

at any rate, my sister in sacramento has a prius and loves it

prius just sucked in the crash rating too. which wasn't determined by CR.

Toyota must have magic batteries when in the real world batteries get less effective the older they get.
