So what happend to "Ford Tough"?

http://www.autocarstyle.com/ford-f150-raptor/

Short synopsis.
Ford Raptor frames are bending causing a gap between the cab and bed.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

I had no idea those things weighed almost 6000 lbs! I thought p/u trucks were supposed to be relatively light?

They arent anymore. They add so much crap that they are just cars with a bed.

Then again I remember when you could buy a new 4x4 cheaper than a cavalier. I paid $10K for a new 92 Sonoma 4x4. The crew cab dually 4x4 was $20K. Same price as a loaded 2dr buick t-type.

Now its near $50K for a half ton. Hell seen some Taco's at the dealer nearing $40K. Not even gonna go into the fucking 4' bed shit. Beds should be either 6', 7' or 8'.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

IIRC back then they didn't have to adhere to the same crash standards as cars which I guess made manufacturing them a lot cheaper. Back in '92 new loaded Honda Civics were probably around 12K. I think they've topped 20K now I get what you're saying though. It really was a lot cheaper to get a p/u truck back in the day. It was win win for rednecks - cheap and versatile!

And for people that could actually USE a truck for its intended purpose.

Actually its not the manufacturing that made them cheap, it was because they werent being bought by yuppies. They skyrocketed in price when the yuppies wanted to look "rugged" and they started buying them and sending them off to companies like I used to work for who put leather and other luxury items found in luxury cars. In 94 a sonoma equipped the same as mine was $20K. $20K in 2 yrs. Same truck, different body style and that was it. Still didnt have air bags then. Same motor, same trans, same axle.

Hell I remember when SUV stood for Special Utility Vehicle, not Sport utility Vehicle.

Also rememer when a crossover was called a station wagon.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

They must pack those things full-o-crap! I'm pretty sure my '03 F150 Supercrew was about 4800lbs. So the Raptor is about 1k more than that? WOW

For reference my '11 Tundra CrewMax weighs 6330 lbs with me in it and 1/2 tank gas. This was on a certified scale.

Ford lost rights to the "Ford Tough" when they brought a FWD "4x4" to market with the Explorer nameplate!
