Looking to buy SUV

a little background, married with two kids (4 & 7) and need SUV. Wife for some reason really want Subaru (Forrester or Outback). I'm a Honda guy myself (first car Civic, current Accord), so looking at CR-V. I'm open to other options if anyone can refer me. Price range $12000-$28000 OTD.

Toyota Highlander

Its should be around 28k, but very well worth the money. Excellent SUV.

We like our Nissan Murano. Great car...we looked at the CR-Vs too and thought the Nissan was much nicer...seems bigger as well.

Have a 2007 RAV4 Limited V6 myself and love it. Rock solid vehicle.

If you want to know too much about the RAV4's, go to www.rav4world.com. They're very active and informative.

Don't forget the 2010 winter storm that we had! It's not necessarily that we get AWD, but it doesn't hurt!

Not really an SUV but have you seen the scion XD it's nice and has a lot of options.
I drove one and liked it a lot.
For SUV I say the new durango. It's pretty nice, I was very impressed with the one I sat in.
Or a f150 quad cab. My brother had one (04 I think) and the guy that bought his had the same one that got rear ended by a drunk driver doing 80-110 or something crazy. Well he wasn't in it, it was his in law, wife and infant baby. I think the driver got a bruise on her leg and everyone else was perfectly fine.
I'm an import guy myself, but I would check out the f150 if I didn't drive so far. Also have you seen or drove the new kia sportage or sorrento? I haven't been in the sorrento but I did drive a 2010 sportage and it's a really nice SUV for the money and has a lot of possible options.

Thanks for all the advices everybody! Today I got an CRV EX-L 4WD!!!!!! I actually test drove a Subaru Forester the night before but my wife thought it was too 'noisy'. Either would have been good tI think since both companies are reliable.

As for my buying experience...Thanks Carrs honda. You were absolutely the best. Good price, no hassle. Thanks Alex (internet sale manager) great guy. This is the second Honda I bought from Carr's (my third Honda). Last time they opened late for me (to about 11pm!!) to seal the deal.

Again, my highest recommendation to Carrs Honda.

P.s.

Evanston Subaru is nice too, I would recommend them also if you're looking for Subaru. Evan, the owner's son, gave me a really good quote. Nice guy.

1st gen ~15
2nd gen ~17

1st gen 3.3L VG solid, long serive lice from the timing belt @ 15k miles but don't let it go long. N/A version is underpowered ~170hp v6

2nd get 4.0L VQ stout. 4L version of the same platform they are putting in everything ~280hp. rear suspension is soft.

Both are about as capable an off road vehicle as you will find that doesn't have a solid front axle. Both drive very well on the road. Lots of people with lots and lots of miles on the 1st gens, The 1st gen does beat up oil because it has a small capacity ~3.5qts so keep the shit changed regularly. Short service schedule.

For a mid-sized/fuel mileage type suv-ish thing I really like the Outback I have at work. 27-28mpg highway good size, comfortable. It will probably be on my next new personal vehicle short list.

Although I had a good BUYING experience at Carr's Honda, I would not recommended taking your car there for service. They are crooks! I don't want to elaborate, but beware!

It better be, there isn't a decent Subaru dealer in Chicagoland when it comes to warranty work.

I would never buy another Subaru for that reason alone.
