How do I know if my tq converter is fucked?

I'm pulling it out of the truck tomorrow. The bolts holding the flex plate to the tq converter sheered, thing was dumping fluid out the bell housing.

Doesn't look like anybody locally sells them and nissan wants my 2nd unborn child for a new piece.

There appears to be a tq converter seal that is readily available almost everywhere for ~$20.

am i f00ked? How can I tell if this thing needs replaced? Do I just bolt the shit back together and see how it goes?

Fuck automatic transmissions. Blown clutches are easy. and cheap.

what caused the bolts to shear? either there is a hole in the converter, or the pump is broken. i doubt its something as simple as a seal. Id be looking for a used trans.

I guess the more appropriate thing to say is it looks like they ripped through the flex plate. All the holes are egged out. There was only 1 bolt left through both components holding them togehter.

why does it sound like a bad fluid pump? These bolts have nothing to do with the pump.

so the bolts sheered, or fell out? to me it sounded like the trans seized or soemthign and sheered the bolts off. if the holes are egged, that means they were loose, and the converter was wobbling around and either hurt the seal, or bushings in the pump.

we could guess some more, but i guess you should pull it out and see where you are at.

you'll want to inspect the drive hub for scoring or galling. no way to check the insides..
