Car Guys: Chrysler Bump Shift?

I have a 95 eagle vision (dodge intrepid) that just recently started "bump shifting" when coming to a stop. Sat all summer, but didn't do this when i parked it. Googled it and most people seem to have other problems as well. Mine works fine at all other times. It's a very noticeable jolt RIGHT before i stop and happens every time at the same time. I can roll a stop sign and it won't happen.

I haven't touched anything yet. Just checking if anybody else has experience with this problem. The car isn't worth a new trans, but if it's just a $50 sensor then i should replace it.

its called "bump stop" its super common. if they car has been sitting for a long time did the battery go dead? you can try just having a dealer to a "quick learn" on the trans, its possible that the trans just forgot what all it was doing.

however, its common on those cars and you may have internal trans failure.

It was having problems with the dash and i'm pretty sure my dad pulled some fuses under the hood....maybe that could've caused it? I didn't drive it for very long, but i don't remember any sort of irregularity in the shifting when i drove it to have my dad work on it. It shouldn't be expensive for the dealer to do the quick learn right?

Haha...well anything i can afford right now is junk. I'm gonna drive it into the fucking ground, buy another with the little i have left after school expenses, and repeat. Maybe i'll get lucky and stumble upon one that won't die.

With all the shit that can go wrong on modern cars, i dont see how any of them are going to be around long enough to be called classics. If one wire is shorting out....the whole damn car can be immobilized.

they should prolly charge you an hour labor. just call a place and ask them how much to quick learn the trans on your car. they know what it is.

you can try just driving it around and it might and thats a big MIGHT eventually learn.

Just an update for anybody who may stumble upon this with the same problem:

Forgot lights on and the battery died. Got a jump and it no longer does it. So if your car suddenly started doing this and you think the battery may have died or been disconnected....disconnect it for a few hours and maybe it'll fix itself.

thats a big maybe. its possible it might return depends on how well the computer learns the trans internal values.

No one has ever met TDS because he is the server that holds the vbulletin software for CLSB. After 9 years, TDS is self aware and will terminate your punk ass.
