Anyone go to the Auto Show?

I thought it kinda sucked. No Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin, Maserati, etc. I got the lowdown on all the new GMCs though. lulz Higher marks on the models though, and I stared down Cheryl Scott weather girl from channel 5 too.

I almost went to see the new 991 and 981. What did you think of them? I'm really diggin' the new Carrera. I read that one of Porsche's test drivers lapped the Ring faster in a stock 991S than he did in a 997GT3.

Nice looking as always. I still like my car's looks the best, but the technology of today's cars can't be compared. Smooth as butter. My buddy is probably getting a Cayman soon.

I love the way the 993 looks. I wish I could have one of each.

Is he going to wait for the 981 Cayman or is he getting a 987?

I didn't see Ferrari, but there was a couple lambos, Aston Martins, Maseratis and a lotus. Just down the aisle from Porsche.

The Lambo club was there with 4 cars I think, but not the OEM. Didn't see any Lotus or Aston Martins. Maybe I missed them.

There was a corner next to Hyundai that was called "super cars". They had two Aston's, three maseratis, and a lotus elise. Not too exciting though, I don't think it was an OEM booth.

I like the Current Cayman S ..... The new one looks to be a real pearl.

That said, would like to find one that's 2 year sold or so .... 09 / or newer.

The 911 still feels like it has two dead bodies in the trunk.

Add me to the used Cayman club. I'm hoping the soon to be released one will drop the value of the 09s. Really sucks that the everything before that "could" had RMS/IMS issues.

The only super car brand that was missing was Ferrari. Really wanted to see the 458. It gets more disappointing every year. More of the higher end models are locked. I remember previous years you could check out most of the AMG models. The number of cara per brand is decreasing. The biggest display was probably VW. I was really impressed with the Grand Cherokee SRT. The new M5 was sweet and the new 3 series wasn't bad until I saw the worst looking nav. screen.

No shit, I only like looking at cars I'd buy and if there is no ferrari, lambo, aston, or maserati that pretty much leaves nothing for me to look at as the porsches are for douches.

correct. stay away from anything with the M96 or even the M97 engine. all the liquid cooled flat sixes built through 2008 are garbage. except of course the split case mezger engines in the gt3 and turbos.

rms no, ims yes, especially once you start the "while its all apart" replacement process since most of them have leaking water pumps and the clutch is worn from abuse.

and the m97 needs to be fully torn down for ims replacement.

I'd rather not have a surprise $3000 bill for a toy, unless of course the purchase price fully reflects that possibility.

From what I understand it's a crapshoot as it's dependant on overrevs which is not something you can easily see when kicking the tires.

Denny , I am using sarcasm .

Yes , they all need it . A lot of them have had it done by now , but still some out there risking it . If the owner/shop that does the oil changes checks the oil filter , its an easy way to catch it in time . I cant imagine someone doing a clutch and not doing the IMS .

I'm one of those. My M96 had an RMS leak, but I bought an aftermarket warranty when I got my 986S. It was covered and the cost of the repair was way more than the warranty cost.

Now, saying the M96 is garbage is going a bit far. Other than that slight leak my car runs great (finding wood to knock on right now). I have put 20k miles on her in 5 years, and with periods of a month or so in the winter without moving... and she starts right up and runs as smooth as the day I bought her. The M97 has a better design, but as long as you don't beat the crap out of your car the engine is pretty solid.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

chills, make sure you use an oil with plenty of zddp in it. the new SAE rated stuff does not have enough. you have to use royal purple or another "boutique" type oil.

but even with those oils its the seal in the ims that lets the grease leak out that starts the failure.

No kidding? LOL, I get more suggestions on what oil to use in the Pcar than I do with my bike. I use Mobil 1 right now, its what Porsche recommends and so do a few mechanic friends. But I've heard from other Pcar enthusiasts not to use it.

She's due for another oil change, where does one find Royal Purple? And what weight do you recommend?
