Fuchs oil

Don't want to turn this into an oil debate... Anyone know where I can get this locally? Or even an online retailer in the us? Specifically Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w-40.

They sell castrol which from what I read was recently changed. Now it's not 100% synthetic, but still on the VW list. I have 100% synthetic in there now (Fuchs), and I'd like to stick with that.

I only want to buy Fuchs because that's what's in the car now, and I'm just buying it to top off the oil. My mechanic uses Fuchs, but doesn't sell the oil. As for the Motul, I wanted to match the 100% synthetic, 5w40 and VW 502 approval.

Not to make this an oil thread debate or anything but Adam Corolla's latest "CarCast" podcast just had some oil expert on. I guess the guy has some certification that only 300 people in the entire world have.

Podcast Link

It was pretty interesting and might answer some of your questions. If nothing else it's more edjumation for everyone.

He is also the general manager and head of technical support at Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil. I'm sure he would be somewhat biased... just sayin

When a true independent oil test study is even done I'll then pay attention as to which oil is better.

My ? is.

As a designer WHY would you design around a BRAND of oil.

My concern is, did the trial runs of this motor fail using brand X

and they needed some special additive to reach their trial results???(Poor choice of metals)

Many people have sugested in the past that manufactures plan around special tools.

I propose they desinged them selves into a corner and need the special tool.

Designing around one, or a few, brands of oil eliminates variables. This makes less work and less unknowns. Also gives them an out when a failure arises that they can't pinpoint a cause.

My point is .
The failure of a material used as a bearing or bushing should eliminate it as a design choice.

Demanding a certain oil additive or such is a bad design option.

i think pats just being picky about the oil he wants, VW does have a number of approved oils, ones they tested adn found to meet their needs, there may very well be a huge number of unapproved oils out there that meet the needs but wrent tested and therefore are unapproved.

as for demanding a specific oil its pretty commonplace, look at your machine tools at work and Ill bet they specify a grease or oil to be used., same story there, its all about testing for approval and testing aint cheap

you may very well be totally right with the special tool analogy as well, its certainly possible
