So I Drove a Honda Pilot Today (long read)

....and gotta say, the 2013 with the VTEC 6 banger (say it loud and proud ladies....VEEEEETEC) and new Body Style was not all THAT bad of a SUV....250 hp and 253 fpt in a low, smooth and boxy ride - Engine System that shuts down 2 cyns and runs on 4 when appropriate to save gas - I gotta say, not a bad ride - So....

Walking past Fletcher Jones (fucking slime balls) and see a sign that reads "2013 Honda Pilot EX-L 3 Yr Lease for $318 a month w/zero down" - I then see a Silver One in the window that looks pretty cool so I walk in - 18 inch wheels, trailer hitch w/4500 towing and 450 tongue weights (MX Hauler is 50 lbs and SM is 250 lbs, perfect), leather, Rear DVD Player, etc etc - So I flag down slime ball #1 who says "I have a lady in Finance right now but I am about to close her (he actually said that) and can get to you next, give me (10) mins?" - I laugh and say "no" and go and find someone else - Find a very nice young lady (not hot) to answer all my questions, let me take the whip for a spin and then begin to chat about numbers....

I am 2 yrs into a 4 yr loan on my '09 Touareg that has 24K miles on it (thats 6K a year for those watching in HD) and is loaded with every option EXCEPT Bluetooth (i know, fuck off) - 19 inch wheels, Navi, Cold Weather Package, Wired Hitch, Leather w/Wood Grain Trim (ha, trim) etc etc - The thing is perfect WITH the exception of needing new rubber all around - I am guessing what I owe and what its worth, $4k difference, rolled into the lease, puts me at about $500 a month which I am good with (not bragging, just saying) - They say how much they WANT my SUV as it is loaded with low miles and we can work a great deal - Ms. DoGood (she really was super nice) comes back and says, "Well, we can give you $19K for your VW" and I just begin to laugh - I arise from my seat and thank her for her time and head to the garage to get the VW - She of course stops me and says, "lets go see the Finc Mgr" to which i reply, 'I would LOVE to hear this" - He shows me a computer print out of VWs like mine in the same year BUT with more miles and less options and says, "The HIGHEST one is SELLING for $25K, see, right here" - I laugh again and say, "yes, with 17 inch wheels, 53K miles, no Navi and cloth interior, nice try" - He then says, "you need tires, thats $1K right there" to which I say, "so you would then be at $20K and you want to make $5K profit AND sell me the Pilot?" followed again by a laugh - I tell him that Autobarn would give me $25k right now without batting an eyelash and HIS money is in the moving of the Pilot, NOT $5K in my VW - He retorts with, "so you are a Finc Guy now" to which I follow with "I can do your job in my sleep pal and know that it is Dec 29th, you have a guy in front of you ready to sign and you cannot even see that YOU make your money off moving volume, not in every single car AND hell, give me $24K, list the VW for $26,995 and take $25,500 and you STILL make $1500 off my car AND make Honda Credit happy happy happy (in Duck Dynasty Voice) with a new lease on their paper, move a car ON the 29th and make me, the WELL informed Customer VERY happy" - His response, "You show me a Bill of Sale for your car for $25K and I'll give you a voucher for $2K in free service here" - I follow with, "After your shortsightedness on this deal, you could make that $10K and I would still rather pay full price else where" and walked out.

What a fucking TOOL BAG SCUM SHOP Fletch Jones is

Sorry, rant off but that Pilot was pretty cool..............for a Pilot that is

The old lady already has one - 2012 - Love the ride too

Not even in the market but saw that sign and checked it out - After coming back from Cali and driving my Bros Subie Outback and seeing the MPG he gets I started thinking about it - The VW when floored moves the Speedo and Tach up and gas gauge down - She is a tank

To be honest, had I NOT seen the tongue weight of the Pilot, I would have NEVER considered it - Also, when the 2nd and 3rd row seats fold down, it is like a fricking mini van in terms of space - The 3rd row is a joke for anyone over 4 feet tall but that cargo space was perfect for race weekends

I said *fuck with* not fuck in the ass.

I was just wondering if you were bored and decided to go mess with crappy sales people.

It cracks me up when they try to pull the old school textbook sales crap. Trying to lead the conversation by asking questions, trying to make it feel like you're going to miss out on a limited time deal, throwing numbers at you in ways that obscure the answer you're actually looking for. Amateurs.

Nope, was intrigued by the $318 lease and if the numbers worked, I would be in the pilot right now - The VW is fine and good but I look at it this way:

$1,000 needed in tires and still under full CPO warranty until 50K miles or 2015 - Would welcome a smaller monthly nut with better MPG and Bluetooth - Not to mention I have had it for 2 yrs now and this happens with EVERY car I have ever owned, I get the hankering for new after 2

Was also just lreading about that new Ford Edge Sport with the Body Kit and 22s but fuck all I cannot bring myself to buy American - Also the Subie Tribeca but the reviews are all mediocre at best for that model

By bike you mean 10 speed ? The only motorcycle that will fit in the back of a mini van is a YSR50.

Amen - Before I picked up the Touareg I was in a battle with them for a Ridgeline and they would not do the deal over a $500 delta - Gave them a 2nd chance on the pilot and they showed their true colors again

Hahaha - Word

I set a goal for 2013 to reduce my monthly nut on Mortgage and Car and stop my STUPID spending - I want to build the bank acct for a nice down payment on a house in 2014 - Got the Condo listing going live tomorrow so the Car Note is next - I did just get back from running errands in the VW and still love it and REALLY do not want to sell it

I guess I can always work harder for my commissions but that just sounds like a lot of work that would interfere with porn and naps

The LEASE was zero down and would also provide me with a lower monthly payment - No out of pocket to get into the lease and carry no depreciation at the end of the lease while lowering the monthly outlay of cash

we love the pilot but the trannys are notorious for exploding, 5k on avg to get one fixed, chk into the newer pilots for tranny reliability, our check engine light has been on for 6 months, i clear it and sometimes within a week goes back on P740 fault torque converter fault - sign of the tranny maybe going, took it to a tranny shop and got quoted over 4k - ill wait till it blows then fix it.

2000 miles on this guys 2011 - fuckin bs - they replaced the acura mdxs on warranty but wont acknowledge issues on hondas - probably cause its a poor mans acura. they suck.

Listen to Chris.

Owned two and a RDX. Great machines. Much better than the Honda.

The Old Lady has a '12 MDX already - Only considered the Pilot as they had some aggressive lease options with zero down that would provide me a lower monthly payment

I can't believe you are even remotely serious about the Crouton, but just in case, it is a rebadged Chrysler Town & Country. So much for not buying American. Although Chrysler is owned by Fiat and it's assembled in Ontario, but it's still a fucking Chrysler.

However, if you have slipped into senility and need space to haul your walker and adult diapers, now would be a good time to buy one. VW just paid Chrysler to terminate the contract for the final year of production. I read that they havent even been in production since July, and what inventory that is out there is withering on the vine. Any VW dealer would love to take your clean, low mile Toureg AND move a Routan off their lot. Two pretty big bargaining chips right there. I have seen lease offers as low as $239/36.

P.S. The Routans tongue weight is 400 el bee's

My wife gets wet for a Pilot Touring in White. I told her there is NO way I would stand for a 40K dollar truck when it is just the both of us, even with 2 kids my Forester will easily fit the bill.

I think the truck looks rental quality (exterior reminds me of a SUV Chevy Maxx), I am not impressed with the "ECO" setting where 2 cylinders shut down. I can feel it when it happens, and I wouldn't consider it a buttery smooth. The seats are roomy in the front. Overall is a decent value for a 7 people mover, perhaps.

Is it good looking, NO!
Do I trust the Honda line in making a quality V6 Transmission, NO!
Does it actually get real world sticker MPG's, NO! (know multiple people with this truck)

For the record we gave our old 95 Accord lx to her sister to learn how to drive. It had 65K miles and currently has 215K miles and runs like clockwork.

I like Honda as a company I don't think they make a quality truck PERIOD.
For a 4 Cylinder w/o AWD they are great.

I may upset someone reading this but this is my opinion from real world experiences, and I'd trust real world experiences before a Car and Driver magazine where they don't put long term miles on cars.

I could praise Honda, and bash them. They really need upgrade the V6 trans and they really need to restyle the body of the Pilot. It's trying way to hard to be rugged IMO. Every coin has 2 sides.

You guys are missing a detail . The Bug doesnt own cars without a warranty , so if the tranny craps out , no problem , warranty will take care of it . He's also moving to the burbs , a mini van will help him blend in , he doesnt like crowds of people rushing him for sigs and pics .
