Brown County

I mentioned this in another thread, anyone up for a trip down to brown county next month? I want to drive down on a saturday morning, ride during the day, camp at night, ride again sunday before heading home. Possible dates at the moment are sept 16-17th, or 23-24th, later dates if need be. Would rather not do 10-11th because might do the lake geneva WORS race that weekend. I'll camp solo if any takers would rather not. Would love to ride some new trails with good flow, brown county fits the bill!

Start at the north end! Super fast and flowing. South end gets more rocky and technical/slower.

My fall is booking up fast, if I can swing one of those weekends I'm in. I've got like a second wind of friend weddings going down this year.

I love both, but flow sounds particularly good at the moment. All the niner has seen so far this year is crushed limestone

You could probably rent a bike from a local shop. Something to look into at least

Yeah! Still!!! I got 6 other bikes to ride but no mtb! Lol

I'll look into a rental. Hopefully I won't have to by then. But my bikes been in the shop over a month and I never thought I'd be without it this long. Redonkulous!!!

Yeah Kev the north end is simply awesome. I know I've said it before, but it just rails through the woods, super smooth, lots of banked corners and fun rollers. I don't know that I saw a root for the first 3 miles back there

I did, however, find myself walking up quite a few of the hills there by midway through...

i'll go, let me know which dates and i'll take the day(s) off work. I don't have any camping gear but I guess i'll try and buy a tent since it would be good to use at wors races or other destination riding spots.

We stayed here:

http://www.antlerlogcabins.com/

AWESOME Cabins, we could easily all fit in there. They're definitely more pricey than camping though!

The roads down there will make you wish you brought your motor powered two wheel mount though

Epic ride, this place is the bomb. Will certainly be an annual trip or even twice a year if possible. Laughed our ass off the whole time, had a good burger in town and the showers were clean.

I'll let kevin chime in and describe the awesomeness that can't be appreciated by pictures. I will say ou guys really are missing out by not riding here. We rode for 5hrs with 3hr 41min of moving time, when riding on the mtb i'm going to be turning off auto pause while stopped to make sure none of the mileage isn't counted because kevins speedo read 33miles and my legs are feeling every mile.

No wasn't us lol.

The flow of brown is epic!

I'm pretty surprised that more of us haven't been there yet. The southern trails were amazing, the northern trails were amazing too. The first 5 miles we couldn't believe what we were riding, completely blew our expectations. Starting out on the southern end, the first trail (limekiln?) was pretty much a 3 mile pumptrack. Lots of speed, little pedaling, lots of effortless jumps and natural wall ride-like berms. That 3 miles is worth the whole drive. The next trail is way technical in a great way. Also worth the drive all on its own. The bar was set for the rest of the trails, and the they didn't disappoint. Lots of climbs but nothing crazy challenging, never had to walk, and some of the uphill technical features were pretty rewarding to keep pedaling over. I now know why they say its best in the midwest, and holds it own with some of the best trail systems in the US. Can't wait to go back in the spring for a slightly longer visit, definitely worth 2 trips a year or more. Palos is now utter garbage, and kettle is meh. I've been spoiled.
