Cyclocross racing

I did the Bartlett race last Sunday and I'm already signed up for 2 races this Sunday in Campton Hills. Can anybody be talked into doing this too? It's pretty fun and a good change of pace from the usual.

I was going to ride my mountain bike, but I decided to try my buddie's CX bike instead. The 700c wheels are much faster than the 26 inchers for sure. I started dead last out of 100 guys, and it took me a full lap out of three to get through the slackers. Once I had some room I passed a few more and finished in 33rd place. Fun race though. I am borrowing his bike once again this weekend. Hopefully I can start closer to the front this time, or there will be room to pass at the start.

I'm trying to be motivated but have only been swimming lately, so you probably won't see me at this.

There is a group of CX riders I sometimes see that train along the lakefront and on Montrose hill.

The swimming has really been helping build muscle especially in my core and upper body. This doesn't help with cycling but maybe i'll be as ripped as chunk one day. I think your uplifting comment may also help motivate jon like it did for me.

What time do you start racing on sunday?

Ken has wanted to get one for a while now. I will possibly work that into the plan for next year. My biking has to stay stellar, it's all I have right now. This weekend's race is tied into Halloween, so a few will be dressed up in costumes. I will be going dressed as a Cyclocross racer.

Awesome time! I'm starting to like this sport more and more now that the courses are getting more technical. I did two races back to back, and the second one had pouring rain with crazy winds at 40 degrees. I couldn't feel my hands. Can't believe I still had fun.

SO many wipeouts with bad weather. They had a woods section set up that had some small hills in it, and man there are some bad bike handlers out there. Awesome to watch though.

Not sure. I don't think so if I remember correctly.

This woods section was only like 100 feet long, and yeah pretty easy except for the hills thrown in there. Some were riding it, and some were running and carrying. I'll see if I can find a vid of it.

Hey Ken, ever hear of Sandra Samman? She's a cyclocross racer and seems to be pretty good.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Nope, but I haven't done too many of these. I might do a few more this year, so I'll keep an eye out.

Not really. You need to see it to get an idea, but it's mostly on grass with some obstacles/barriers to jump over, tight turns/chicanes to navigate, muddy sections to ride/carry as you see fit, and a few other interesting things. Here is a video from the first race in that woods section:

Except for the guy in the orange and blue at 36 seconds. He is super ripped. But that guy did have skillz, and he was fast too. He was muscling me on some of the tighter sections hugging the inside of the turn so I couldn't pass. I eventually did pass him though, but we had a great race.

Next year I will do more of these so I can start in the front and not get held up on the first lap. In the 4B race I don't care too much because that is the class they should learn in, but in the 4A race they should be a little better at this stuff.

Yeah Meulen is a XXX racer.
