Myself and the Team Bike Haven will be there. Leaving Friday afternoon to stay in some cheap hotel, with cheap sunglasses.

We are doing the team event of 36 miles. Mary Ann is on our team to. We hired her away from Intent...

She is staying with me and Jenna and John. Just curious if anyone wants to carpool up there, but I can't leave until after work.

My CX bike is still in a muddy pile in the corner from that disaster of a race at nationals.

I may try it out this weekend to see if its feasible. Would be about the same weight as the fuji, and far more comfortable

I think my CX bike is pretty comfy. I gotta really get all my bikes fitted so they all feel the same. That'll be about a grand. Damn.

I'm not a fan of the road bars when on rough surface for a few hours. Waterfall Glen makes my hands ache enough, the roubaix will have sections that are worse from what I've read. Handling wise, I think I'll be faster on the mtb too. The dude that wins this thing regularly does is it on a mtb with cross-like rubber, so in theory I may be on to something...

I haven't even looked at the terrain. Is this mostly open hammer sections or single track?

"What makes the Barry-Roubaix a special race is that it consists of gravel roads of varying gravel types, from loose sand over hardpack sections, to sections with larger gravel granules that are rough to ride, to sections that seem like endless potholes. There are also paved sections where the speeds can get real fast really quick, along with some sections of two-track where a little bit of handling skills are required. And donít worry, there is a good amount of climbing too."

taken from some dude's writeup

Pavement and "two track" means hammer. I think on a MTB you will lost a bit of speed compared to the tighter sections or rougher sections. If you are uncomfortable I suppose it isn't worth it to deal with that, but I would guess this race lends itself to a CX bike the best.

on paper, I agree with that. Hard for me to make the call without knowing more about the conditions. I need to do some youtube research

Yeah, now I'm wondering how much climbing there is. If there is a lot, both my CX bike and MTB have taller gearing, so that is gonna be a killer. I'm gonna search for an elevation graph or something.

This guy says 4000 feet. That's nothing. I think the St. Charles ride is about that. This guy looks about as slow as can be.

Just looked. The St. Charles ride is about 1000 feet in 30 miles or so. So this is about double the climbing, which really doesn't sound that bad.

So climbing is a non issue. Would be nice to find approximate distances for sections. Like 10 miles road, 20 miles rough multi track, etc.

Yeah that would be handy. I never have a problem with any of the singletrack on my CX bike, so I will probably settle with that anyways. Assuming I get it running by next weekend.

Just watched that vid. If most of the race is like that, cross bike no doubt. Other than the sand and muddy section that road looked pretty hard packed

I'm guessing for a 60 mile race, 95% of it will be no problem even with a road bike if you have decent bike handling skills. I would love more tight single track, but I would guess there will be zero.
