Not a bad day after all, but a bit chilly at just under freezing. Glad I went out there though. This course was awesome, and really rewarded the strong and skilled. You were either turning left or right, or going up or down. 1.5 mile loop.

Did the masters 40+ race, and out of 12 guys I got 4th. I lead the last two laps and pulled everybody around, and then made an attack going down the sketchy downhill with a decent right hand turn at the bottom which you had to set up for pretty well at top speed. I hit 38 mph and looked back and had a small gap, but I knew these guys were strong and I bitched out on trying to hold it. I should have tried just for kicks. Instead I fell back into the pack in 2nd place behind the eventual winner.

We both went up the last hill and hit it, and I had a few guys on my tail so I wasn't sure what was up with them. I paced myself up the hill right behind him, and then there was about 200 yards to go, so I tried to catch him but he broke the draft with his super powers and I couldn't reel him in. No surprise though, he is pretty fast and a CAT2, so I'm happy to be anywhere near him. While not outsprinting him, I guess a few guys decided to outsprint me and pimped me at the line.

Still a great race and a challenging course. Glad I went and so is my kid.

Yeah he raced 5. It was a small group, so not much protection from the wind or surges going on. You had to be strong enough to keep up on your own. Plus the hills killed a lot of people on their own. We started dropping people after just one lap.

I've decided I bitched out. I should have tried a breakaway up the last hill on the lap before last. I could kill the hill, which nobody would be expecting, get a gap up it, hammer down the straight, haul ass on the downhill which nobody was going faster than I was, hold my speed on the small power hill, and then hope not to die getting around the rest of the course. Honestly, there wasn't a whole lotta drafting going on anyways. I think it was worth a shot. Now I'll never know. First of the losers or last of the losers, IDGAF. Next time, it's on. I'm doing something. People gonna know who dis nigga be!

White man can't jump and apparently can ride a pedal pusher

Either way, nice work. I froze my a$$ at the Wheeling Wheelman Wauconda St. Patty's day ride, but I did get in 38 miles on a course that was mapped for 36..

Jon did you do the Wheelman ride in Wauconda Sunday? All my guys bailed on me, they got polluted the night before. I showed up about 8:45 and hit the 16 mile loop at 9:03, finished that in 42 minutes, then hit the 20 mile loop, considerable slower Ken wouldn't let me borrow his snazzy Garmin or I would of done it in 12 minutes flat It took me and hour and 17 minutes for the 20, then I did the 16 mile loop again, took an hour and 5. It had been a very long time since I have rode anything over 25 miles. I did a spin class today, I definitely felt it, but I ran a mile of sprints before I took the class, and used the rower for 30 minutes.

I'm wondering if I saw you on the 16 mile loop? I was wearing a bright orange Thermal Barrier Jacket and was riding my puke green Bianchi.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

Yes I was there. If I had known you where showing up we could of rode together. I rode with my team and they were all on there mtn bikes which was painfully slow for me as I was on my cross bike with road tires.. We started at 8:30 or so. I did the 16 mile loop with them and think we had a 14mph avg or something like that..

The 20 mile loop I rode with them for a few miles but told them I going to take off and ride my pace.

Sat in the high school for a while after the 16 mile loop getting feelings back in the toes.

Overall great ride just cold and could not feel my nose. I was wearing MX goggles too..
