Sylvan Island Stampede 4/14/2013

Roll call, bitches. Who's doing this one? Its a short and flat course mostly in the woods with some open sections and mildly technical singletrack here and there. Don't forget the start with a drag race to the singletrack! Fun as hell rain or shine and its a good course for spectators too. Great mtb race to kick off the season. I'll be racing comp as I'm looking to up my game this year.

Ok as part of Team CLSB I know where my duties will lie. I will go out directly behind you all at the start and upon hitting the single track promptly blow up. My job for the remainder of the race will be blocker duty. In exchange I want all of my race entry fees paid for the rest of the year, whether I actually show up or not. Oh and I want you to hook me up with your EPO dealer. Dealio!?

Signed up for Sport. Right now I'm just planning on driving over the morning of and skipping a pre-ride. If it's less technical than SWK, I'm not too worried. Just have to use the first lap to figure it out. Should be interesting.

It's not technical at all. Hardly any elevation. I'm gonna show up morning of, and probably take a quick scope of the entrance into the singletrack. You definitely want to know where that is so you can beat everybody else into it, otherwise they hold you up. If it's the same as it always is, you will reach your top speed at the start, and there is a serious dragrace to the singletrack. Be ready.

That's a good tip to scope out the entrance to the singletrack ahead of time. Is there much room on the island for warming up while races are going on? Thought about bringing my trainer and just doing it in the parking lot.

No room at all. Most people either bring trainers, or just warm up across the bridge on the path or roads. You have to check out the start of every course so you know when it lets up. At the start of every race, people will redline themselves to get to the front of the pack before the single track so they don't get held up. Once they are in the single track they ease up, but if you aren't one of the first ones in there then you are WAY back already.

Anyone else secretly hoping for a monsoon to take over the island Sunday? For some reason I think I'd actually prefer super sloppy conditions.

Been checking out pics from last year on this site. http://www.hansonphotodesign.com/f950690483
Place looks fun as hell...maybe a little sketchy but nonetheless a good time. Glad my shots are up to date.

I am too. First time I did this race it was exactly that, rained like cats and dogs for the whole race (luckily only citizen ) and it was the most fun race I've ever done. Most of the course will be wet and slick but not too muddy, a few short sections will be a soupy mess. Lends itself well to good handling skills. Because the the majority of the course is rocky and drains water pretty well they run the race rain or shine which is cool. My bike at the time needed a complete overhaul afterwards though, totally fucked

I hope it's dry. I need a hammerfest! I'm leaving the powertap on too so I can see my average power for the race and matching HR.
