Day trip

Hey, I need a day off. Next week I'm packing up my mtb and headed out for a day of riding. Suggestions? Was thinking the kettle moraine area but never been there, suggestions, maps, info?

Kettle is definitely worth checking out if you've never ridden there. My favorite place to ride within a 1.5 hr drive. Trails are one way loops and very well marked so there's no worry about getting lost.

This site has maps(don't really need one) and the number for the hotline which I recommend calling before heading up. http://southernkettles.org/maps/ The trails are always changing with reroutes each year but those maps are close enough. There are also kiosks at the trail head showing the latest trail info.

I'd recommend starting at the John Muir trail head and explore from there. Can't go wrong with any of the loops there. Explore them all or if you really want to put some miles in try the blue loop to the connector on up to the Emma Carlin trails. Muir trail head Location: https://plus.google.com/115169512995...ut?gl=us&hl=en

Daily vehicle pass is $10 and trail pass is $4. I go there a lot so I just bought an annual trail/vehicle pass for $55.

The La Grange General Store which you'll pass on your way to the trail head is good place to stop afterwords for some good eats and drinks. At the corner of Highway H and rt 12.

BTW, had a great trip, was wet as hell but still had fun, plus I had the place almost to myself.

Make sure you don't pay for a trail pass or parking. I gotta make sure I get some benefit for my $200 DNR ticket from those fucksticks.

Sounds like $5 would have been cheaper to pay...

Glad to hear. I was there several weeks ago after some of the big rains had come through several days prior and it was pretty muddy overall. Was real surprised they were open.

It's nice when you have the place to yourself. I miss riding there already.

Kettle would seem like a prairie path compared to Colorado. Riding the three sisters trail out there was an eye opener

Heading to Kettle today to see if I can get arrested for that unpaid ticket I received. Keep your phones on today boys in case I need bail money.

I probably should figure that out. I had 4 waffles with a shitton of butter and syrup for breakfast, lulz, a powerbar, 2 Honey Stinkers, 2 Perpetuem chewy blocks, and one bag of those chewy Chomps, plus a couple salt stick tablets. I think that's it. I probably could have eaten more though. Definitely needed to drink more. I think I only had one water bottle before the ride, and then a full 120 oz camel bak during the ride.
