WORS Sunburst Showdown Aug 4th

Any one else doing this one? I'm 80%, just need to convince myself to spend 5 solid hours in the car. Course is supposed to be fast, grassy, boring, tons of climing, and more like cross than mtb from what I've learned from the interwebz. Whats not to like?

My kid was going to hit nationals, but since she hasn't swam all year and is more focused on cycling I guess we're gonna do Tour of Elk Grove on saturday and the WORS race on sunday.

Had a great race. I was going back and forth with this guy I have raced with before, and he's tough, so I knew he wouldn't make it easy. I led him for the first 3 laps, and on the last lap he put in an attack on the flat to gain some distance over me. I caught up, saw he was feeling it on the switchback climbs, caught up to him, and then passed him going into the singletrack.

I was stronger in there, but he was pushing hard to keep up with me so he could stay in the fight. We got to the open field sections, and he attacked HARD and put a bunch of distance on me there, passing 4 or 5 lappers in the process too. I fought hard, and was just starting to catch him before the end of the race, but couldn't catch him.

He finished right behind 3rd place by a wheel, and I was a few seconds behind them. Just missed out on a podium spot once again finishing 5th. At least I had a great race and felt somewhat strong finally. I could have done another lap if I had to or gone for a run. Wasn't my typical worked over ready to die feeling this time.

Dani had a good race and is starting to look like her old self again, winning the junior race for the girls. I will move her up to the Citizen adult race now to gain a bit more experience and race a longer distance. A couple of the other girls have done that already too.

I have no excuses, no mechanical to lay the blame. I blew up on the first lap and straight up quit. I got shelled off the back before the 2nd big climb and was on my own in short order. Legs were done and I was in mental shock, couldn't believe the physical state I was in, barely turning the cranks, throat on fire from huffin and puffin. WTF. This week I had started up training everyday and then overdid it yesterday considering the race today, just didn't recover all week and I had no answer for the relentless climbs. Not accustomed to that daily workload anymore is my only thought, was really caught off guard today. I went into this thing confident that I would at least do as well or better than recent race results. Learning from this, wiill regroup and sort my shit out because DNF for non-mech is bullshit

Damn! This is not good. Lots of low FTP talk in here! Figure it all out and get back at it. Sometimes, when you have certain expectations of a finishing position or race outcome, it works against you during the race. Comp is no joke. Next time, suck it up, slow down a bit, and make it a training ride and stay in it for the long haul. You need the hill training.

Nice work Ken (and Dani). Kevin I would think training everyday would be good for the 3 weeks before the race. The week of the race I thought that you would want to taper. Either way it's not the end of the world.

You don't go from hero to zero and vice versa. Your fitness has improved so much this year. You just got caught in a rut somewhere on this particular day at this particular time. It happens. Get back at it.

Yeah I'm frustrated with it for several reasons, but ultimately its getting banked for motivation and smarter decisions moving forward. I know its not the end of the world
