Explain UCI CX Points

The main reason I'm doing pre-season races is to accumulate UCI points so I can start in front for CCC. In Rantoul I ran an open Masters race, and Cat 5. I got 4th out of 8 starters in the Masters, and 3rd out of 8 starters in Cat 5. I got 410 points for the masters race, and 531 for Cat 5. The winner of Cat 5 got 472.

It seems to me that I am better off doing poorly in open races with higher ranked opponents than well in Cat 5 with novices. Am I understanding his correctly? Since I am 30 I'm not eligible for the masters races for Geneva or Trek, so I might not have a choice for the rest of pre-season.

Should I keep trying to run doubles, even though I'll suck in the second race?

It is far better to be thought of as a smartass than an dumbass. And as American Humorist Robert Benchley (1889-1945) noted, "no matter how well-intended, any reply to a dumbass question will inevitably appear smartassed". - Bob Hall (creator of the Miata)

Not exactly sure, but I think you are correct. I asked somebody else last year on how to move up in masters for starting position, and they weren't sure either. I know I did get more points in masters with the higher cats then even winning the cat 4 races, so I'm sure it's based on your competition and number of riders or something.
