Road America Vintage Classic 06-11, 12, 13.

The Chicagoland vintage motorcycle community is buzzing and looking forward to a new event just a couple of hours away...The Road America Vintage Motorcycle classic is scheduled for June 11 through the 13th at the RA facility in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin.
This is going to be a full event with Road Racing, Cross country, Observed Trials and 2 full programs of vintage and post-vintage Moto Cross. There's also going to be a Will Stoner swapmeet and bike show open to all bikes 1990 and earlier. Get those CL's, CB's and RD's and other projects and Cafe' racers up to RA for this one...Should be a great warm up for Mods vs. Rockers the following week (6-19-'10) back home in Chicago at Delilah's!
In addition, they are offering complimentary club corral space (maybe the CLSB vintage enthusiasts might get a corral for CLSB to have a spot to headquarter at).
I know there will be a big presence of ChiVinMoto and other VinMoto groups and Ton Up Chicago along with other chapters of Ton Up from around the country will be there...I plan to race the Friday Cross Country on my '69 Yamaha and the Saturday Vintage MX on my '73 BSA 500, plus if I have any energy left in these old bones, I may ride in the Observed Trials on Sunday on a '74 TY 250...The only thing not on the schedule is a vintage flat track, but I understand they're working on including one on Saturday night in Plymouth.
More info can be had from www.ahrma.org.

I'm betting this will be the best motorcycle event at Road America in 2010, considering how screwed up DMG racing is!

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

Not to hijack this thread, but possibly sweeten the pot.

Supermoto will be racing at the motoplex that weekend as well (12th and 13th) You can swing by between vintage races and check out the crazy guys who put slicks on their dirtbikes. Lots of action, two series combine to race on a double header weekend.

This maybe the fist change of plans in 25yrs that that does not include the superbike double header.
I'm hoping it brings back memories of the early events. The sounds and smells were different then.

Not only does AHRMA let you revisit the races you remember, Gus. It allows you a glimpse into the distant past before your time...It is way cool to watch handshift Indians and Harleys mix it up with pre war Nortons and Triumphs! The smell of racing castor and the smell of two stroke exhaust...not just the road racing but the MX too!
AHRMA Vintage racing has something for everyone!
I also won't be surprised if the swap rivals Mid O and Davenport.

Before my time?stop being a flirt.

Thanks for the nice words. I'll oil up my walker and be there with bells on.

which bike?

A duel sport has always been the best tool for RA.A 1973 SL350?

Something with a road race theme?

This maybe the tuffest part of planning the trip.

Hopefully I can make it as well. We can put 2 bikes in the pickup and 3 in the trailer. Why choose!

See the trouble starts when my people all want to bring an old bike and then I have to prep 4 or 5 bikes for the trip.I've had this (getting bikes ready for these trips involves to much last minute stress)ruin my week end.

This year if any one wants to take a resurrection bike they are on their own!!!

BUMP... So who's heading up to Road America for the first annual AHRMA vintage festival? Three days of fun on old wheels.
Friday has track sponsored road race practice and an AHRMA Cross Country dirt bike race. Sunday has a full program of road racing for all of AHRMA's classes and a full slate of vintage motocross (pre 1975 machines). Sunday has a full day of road racing and post vintage MX plus vintage observed trials.
There is also a Wil Stoner swao meet and I understand that there's supermoto going during the weekend too.
So who from CLSB is coming up? Anyone competing? ( I plan to ride... emphasis on RIDE... in the vintage MX and the Observed trials).
This is AHRMA's first attempt at an event like this at RA and it's success is important to AHRMA. If you are looking for something to do, c'mon up...I am sure if you like motorcycles there will be something at this event that will keep you interested!

LVO and I will be there... I'll be doing Battle of the Twins on the Evil Red Duc... he's doing Vintage Superbike on his '78 LeMans. We're bringing his son along - whatta way to celebrate a 16th birthday!

It will be our first outing with AHRMA. I've heard that it's a really great, family-oriented org.

Was looking thru the pre-entries posted on their website and saw a few familiar faces from various places... this is going to be an AWESOME weekend!

Viv - we'll be pitted under the Obnoxious White Canopy... look for the Tub O'Ducklings!

I'll be in the pits we prepped Nicks SV .It'll be a sight, He'll be wearing his orange vest and starting at the back.As a first time AHRMA racer you have to wear the vest.

I'll be on the BRP.

No time to prep any of the oldies for this spring.

Jack might ride the 400F??

Wow... The best laid plans of mice and men...I was just checking my email and threads and such and my phone rang...I'm going to be cancelling my trip to RA. An unexpected death in my family has caused me to change my plans. My cousin, who I am very close to lost his son last might. I have no details but I can't leave town when he's going through something like this.
Everyone who goes and competes...good luck.
Hope to see CLSB folks at Mods vs. Rockers.

I'll be riding the GS1100E. I don't get too stupid on that bike. The R1's tires are bald and the plates are expired so even if I take that one I'll be taking it easy .

Lemme know if you want to meet up in the morning and ride up there. I wanted to go up Saturday but my mom is in town from CA so we're going out to dinner.

Not to put out any undue temptation Gio, but if you want to borrow my trailer so you can bring your Harley with you as well, you are welcome to it.

I'm still tentatively planning on being up there by about 10:30 Saturday for the the SM stuff, if the weather ends up looking too bad, we may have to bail.

I may have to bring my bicycle and little kid trailer so I can ride up to the vintage paddock and show my daughter all the old bikes!

They have been getting pretty strict up at RA about riding "unlicensed" pit bikes around, not sure if we will be allowed to cruise up to the other paddock on our SM bikes
