Old school hip hop

When rap was rap & everyone had their own style. Remember when you had to be different to have a hit. Nowadays allz you have to do is copy the latest hit.

I give you: Masta Ace.

I used to bump that Masta Ace tape in my Suzuki Samurai with an 8 inch Bazooka. Yeah I said it. Love that album.

Another Masta Ace Classic

BTW That is Masta Ace Solo. Record company wouldn't let Biz be on the track.

I remember being a pre-teen suburban white boy waiting for LL's answer to Kool Moe's latest cut. Those battles were epic. Nobody was shooting anyone, just rap battling. Rap music sucks now, and has for the past 10-12 years or so with very few exceptions- imo anyway.

+1 I can only think of a couple with their own styles & lyrics that I care to pay attention to. Eminem & Ludicris. Lil Wayne's got a nice flow as well.

I agree 1000%. Hip Hop music is garbage now. All this Soulja Boy, Gucci Man shit is crap. For fuck sake. Can I get fuckin record deal too? Seems like they're putting anyone behind a mic these days. But I gotta say those Drake joints are the mothafuckin sheezy son! THE SHEEZY!

Doh you post something awesome like Masta Ace then come back with this. Booo.

You gotta look to the guys still making music that have been in the game for a while.

Common, Mos Def, Talib Kalieb, Dead Pres, Lupe Fiasco, Q-tip, Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z (new album not up to par, but still better than 99% out), Roots, Pharoahe Monch.

Just to make a short list. My tastes are pretty specific. I love hip hop, but not really a fan of most of the stuff that comes out of the south or west.

Sorry, i like that line. Thanks Chunk.

My Zune is filled with old stuff like the guys you mentioned above, along with Bush Babies, Das Efx, Camp Lo, Outkast, Modd Deep, Alchemist, Gangstar, KRS, Del, Rick the Ruler, etc etc.

Drake is cool, Lil Wayne is funny. All the other guys should be put in the R&B section, NOT rap.

What fucking ever, if I wanted to listen to anyone ranting about "the struggle" it sure as fuck wouldnt be these clowns. And putting J/Z in the same sentence as "these" rappers makes the list even more dicredited.

JZ can stay in NY and the others can catch a boat back to wheree ever they want.

What happened to good rap, 2LC, NWA, Slick Rick, DJ quick, Eric-B, Ice T, .......

All west coast gansta Junk 'cept Slick Rick and Eric-B (who was Rakim's DJ shows the hip hop knowledge you got). Don't get me wrong I dig some of the songs, but as far as actual skills they are lacking. If you want to post up something that would impress me out of the west, you would have mentioned Jurassic 5.

Oh and in case your having trouble reading, we were talking about more recent stuff. You haven't mentioned an artist that has made a song in the last decade.
