tentative MW CCS schedule

http://ccsracing.us/schedules/2011/2...20schedule.pdf

Looks like "TBA" is the July 4th weekend at Road America... I'm guessing it's just not finalized yet? Either way, it's just about what I expected and doesn't conflict with any of the WERA rounds I wanna do in the South so I'm happy. The only thing that's disappointing to me is the lack of a Team Challenge at Blackhawk.

Geee how exciting. HPT a long haul. Though a great track. Who's dragging me out there with them?

Then probably Road Am. And........ BHF

Why not:
Putnam
Gingerman
Grattan
Autobahn
Mam
Iowa Speedway

We'll do Topeka... and Blackhawk is a no-brainer. CCS ran Autobahn back in '04-'05 and Kevin has no appetite for going back there. CCS dropped Gingerman because they couldn't get enough riders to grid up for a ONE-day event (back in the day there were two events at G-man every year... then one... then nothing). Ditto with participation at MAM. Putnam does not allow camping and there are those who would argue that the final turn is unsafe for bikes.

I still dont know why Putnam does that, they are really killing themselves with that one.

i agree with turn 10.. and being the last before the straight, its a good place for heated battles and could end badly for many parties involved. that being said, i REALLY miss that track, and passing people on the outside of 10 like my hair was on fire

They may have a stipulation with the township/county not to allow camping on site.

Owners are not race org friendly from what I heard.

Not sure why MAM isnt used. Seemed to be well liked by CCS racers and a decent track. Just no shade.
Iowa Speedway. Death trap. If you didnt see the MototST clusterfuck there a couple years ago, lets just say Gateway was safer.
Gratten. Dunno. Probably the same reason Gingerman is no longer on the schedule.

Would like to see Brainerd on the schedule.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

True. There are regions that always run the same venue. But we have options! It's not like those are the only 3 games in town. Not that HPT is in town.

I've heard the surface at MAM is degrading.
Iowa Speedway is great! Just run on the apron, and not on the banking. Which is funny, when CCS runs Daytona and Gateway.
Putnam, I'm told it's a village ordnance that does not allow camping. So it's not the tracks call. Though turn 10 is an issue. But again, no worse then other select corners at some tracks.
Grattan? One of the most technical tracks anywhere! And it's local.
I think there is some track up by Detroit as well.
If you're going to do Topeka, then how about Hallett or Hastings?
I've never been to Brainerd.
If you're doing HPT, why not Nashville?

I'm not on the CCS staff, so I have to assume there are reasons that all these things occur. But we have other options. Not sure why NONE of them seem to ever work out.

Does anyone know if you can rent a transponder for WERA? I'd like to go do a few rounds. But I can't drop $400 on a transponder for a couple rounds.

WERA does rent transponders.

Tell me more about Iowa Speedway - Is anybody racing there or just the trackday orgs? Heck, Newton is only an hour or so away. I've heard VERY good things about Hallett... bike-friendly and the folks I know who've gone have had a GREAT time. AHRMA has a date at Gingerman in '11.

Personally, I've never had fun at Grattan. Did two weekends there way the hell back when... and even though I didn't crash or anything (I was going too slow to fall down)... was never able to get relaxed and happy there. WERA's running there next year, right?

I think the next couple of seasons will be critical for CCS... Shit, there were three regions in the "midwest" when I started... if everybody shows up and fills the grids... then Mr. Elliott and friends will be able to realistically consider expansion. Yeah, I know... back to THAT again. It's a circular discussion, LOL.

My old roomie was Racing MotoST and lucky for him and his team, the bike broke before the race at Iowa. I think he said most AMA Teams refused to start and the riders meeting was a lot of bitching. If I recall right someone got airlifted out of there as it was such a unsecure track....
Thats all I remember...

You probably won't see another race at Iowa Speedway because of the Moto ST thing. I can't imagine that Iowa is any less safe then Daytona or Gateway. When Nesba ran there, we ran on the apron below the banking. I figured it was going to be soooooo lame. It was one of the best times I had that year. You can't tell a racer to stay off the banking. If they can take a pass and it's paved, they will go there. So unless someone decides it is not more dangerous then any other oval. It's probably dead to CCS.

Blackhawk is great. It's local. The people and environment are great. But it's too much. We're all BHF specialists now. We do need some diversity. I can dream can't I.

Hallet is great. The surface looks like old Grattan. Looks like pooo but grip is fine. It's the BHF of that area. Great people, awesome photographer, very laid back.

Hastings. Awesome track! The track owner is the Willy Wonka of track owners. He does it because he LOVES it! Hot laps in the school bus on track in the dark with 50 people in the bus. He bought go karts and holds kart races after the days event is over. The best shower facilities anywhere. Lots of run off. Soft fluffy alfalfa fields surround the track. This would be a GREAT place to supplement the series.

Grattan. You're not going to love it if you don't like a challenge. You don't show up and master that track in a few sessions. It takes some time. It's one of those places where the locals are FAST! Unlike Hallett where the locals thought they were fast. Then in 2nd or 3rd session, Wink, Ackerman and Brehmer went out and handed it to them. With the exception of young gun Dustin Dominguez. Great kid. Super fast! We'll hear more of him in the AMA I'm sure.

Maybe we could mix it up. Do old grand prix style starts. You have to put your gloves and helmet on and run to your bike.

Add a Great Lakes Dragaway round. Maybe add a flat track round. There's nothing more entertaining then street bikes on grass or dirt! Mix it up a bit.

Yes way way too much BHF. When I started racing we hit BHF, RA, Ginger, Auto so Chicago was a good place to be. Now not so much. I enjoyed Hastings, Hallett is a great track but too far, really like Mid O and Barber. It would be nice to have that Mid O AMA thing back...

I'll probably run the first 2 CMRA rounds @ MSR Houston - 5 hr endo and the 8 hr Endo @ Texas World. Depending what happens in June, may do a WERA round.

I forgot about the big O'. Yeah, Mid-ohio would be nice. I didn't master that back section. Really never found the groove of turn 1 either. Could use a few more laps there. Loved stuffing up the inside at the entry of the keyhole. Sorry to that WERA white plate. But you were just too slow in the corners and had motor on me in the straights.

If you want to race at Mid-Ohio - the AMA Road Race Grand Championship is open to all the race orgs. It's a stand alone event, and everyone who wins a race are invited to the year end AMA Legends & Champions weekend in Vegas. Last year the RRGC was the weekend after VMD, which you could race your SV at as well.

Cool. You know all the hip insider stuff

Since I've been healthy all season this year, the little FZR is actually out getting the carbs rebuilt and sync'd. Motor is in. Rearsets are on. I've got a '99 R1 front end that I just serviced put on it. Just got calipers for that front end a couple weeks ago. Ordered another rear wheel for the conversion (3 spoke this time) it should arrive in a couple days. I should be ready to rock for spring!

I don't know a schedule yet, but last year, the timing worked out that VMD and the RRGC were scheduled right next to each other which was fun.

Looking forward to seeing the FZR on the track finally!

Last page of the Licnse renewal mailer:
CCS license mailer 2011

Created an “experimental” Rookies Cup
class with three displacements, (GTL GTU-
GTO), open to Amateur riders with
less than 1 year’s experience. Class to
run at select Mid-West and Mid-Atlantic
events. (Giving new racers an opportunity to
“test the waters” or to gain experience without
the stress of amateur championship competition.)
