first race and race school

Ive been thinking about going to the race school down at jennings before the weekend race the first weekend of April. My first race on a sport bike.

What should I prepare for besides the standard safety wired bike etc? yellow amateur number plates?

Go to www.ccsracing.us and check out the rule book and stuff.
They were very helpfull when I asked them questions last year, go and email them.
I belive that Jennings weekend is done by CCS Florida. I belive Steve used to race with them.

You will need yellow plates with black numbers that are choosen by you and than approved by ccs.

You might need case guards if you dn't have them already. Although I've seen bikes get through tech without them.

edit : Ok. oops. just noticed the other thread about this.

Good Luck !

I have a whole list of parts for you to order Kevin. Still adding to it today and will email it to you this afternoon. Ill need to get that yellow vinyl so after the school I can put on the yellow plates and numbers. A friend said I could call CCS and obtain a number so I can have the numbers ready at least. Otherwise Ill have to purchase a variety of 6" black numbers.

Its funny up until this year I thought CCS stood for College of Creative Studies

I was looking at the laptimes for various tracks and see the expert/armature class at Jennings turns a fast laptime. I don't quite understand all the fastest lap, fastest first lap crap... and wtf is a real average lap time? whats the difference between Middleweight supersport vs middleweight gp?
http://www.myracingbio.com

I feel confident I can turn a high 1:19 ... 1.5 seconds faster that my comfortable trackday pace with kevins help with my current improper suspension set up. I bet after the springs get dropped in i could drop to the second and a half esp with a few faster folks pulling me around.

I think the laptime data integrated incorrectly on that site.... However it is clear I could smoke the over 40 group. hhaha

stickers/numbers- gkotlin Greg makes them quick and painless... PM him!
Racing classes - you printed out the Rulebook, right? check Section6 / page 30.
each one has its specific rules, e.g. one allows slicks, one only DOTs,...

Fastes lap would be the fastest lap in that race / practice session

You won't get your numbers till you pay. So fill out the forms now and send them in with your requests. When they get back to you, let me know and we'll get them done.

I called on Wednesday last year for my numbers. 4 of the numbers I wanted were available. On Sunday AM at registration when I came over and paid, they were all gone. In a pinch you can make numbers with electrical tape. Otherwise find me or pit with me. I'll have number with me or the Pirelli vendor usually stocks them in the Midwest.

Haha... I guess the rules are that you start last and slip on the ed bargy bright green shirt on your first race. On the 600 supersport I started dead last and had 7th into turn 1 at Jennings. i bet I pissed off a bunch racers with that bright green shirt. Then after passed my way up to 5th then the last turn I got passed for sixth. Then for the formula 40 class, I started last after the second wave. I was fifth into turn 1 and it took me 2 laps to pass everyone from the first wave and that gave me first for armature formula 40 then I spent the next 3 laps passing the expert old guys. Made me feel less old

and Im sunburned Great weekend!

on the formula 40 race I had my gopro mounted in reverse and noticed a Armature #781 crashed following me into turn 1

How do I get a hold of that guy to let him know I got his crash on video? I would want my crash documented.

And Vesrah has my bike safety wired so impeccably the CCS official inspecting my bike called someone over to look at it. Maybe it's a little over done.

Kevin: I got to order me one of those jigs for drilling safety wire holes into nuts. See you in Chicago this week!
