Cool My Videos from May 8th at BHF

I finally got my videos processed. The first night YouTube was acting wierd, and then last night Movie Maker decided to keep locking up. Finally, through persistence and some cursing, I got them done. One video was still rendering when I left for work this morning, but I'll add it tonight.

This day was cold (<50*), rainy off/on, and generally a piss-poor day. However, we managed to raise over $2500 for Breast Cancer Research with a bake sale and auction, so it was a successful day.

For me, this was a test/tune day. I had freshly rebuilt forks from Turn One Racing, and a new Brembo master cylinder. In addition to it being the first track day of the year for me, the feel of the bike was different from last year. I found myself braking way too early with the Brembo. I'll have to adjust my brake markers as the year goes on. Due to the slower pace, I was turning in too early for the speed I was running. I skipped sessions 1,4, and 6 due to the rain.

Excuses, excuses.........here's the videos. (Vimeo links below the YouTube windows, since YouTube is blocked at worked)

First session of the year. Pathetically slow and riding like a scared newbie.

Session-2, Part-1

Session-2,Part-2

Session-3: Following Dug2. Still too cautious with the new brakes and cold temps to keep up like I wanted. Next time Dug

Session-5: Following Supergirl. Nice riding Tea! (short session due to a red flag)

Session-7, Part-1: RAIN! Got some practice with the DOT race tires.

Session-7, Part-2: Some rain, but started drying up a bit.

Session-8: This was the best session of the day. I went out and thought it was dry, but reviewing the video showed is was a very light rain the last few laps. I still don't understand how it can be raining, and you won't notice it while you're riding.

The camera is a Canon FS200. The quality of the online videos really don't do the camera justice. The raw footage is so much better even though it's a relatively cheap camera.

The raw video for one session is between 150MB-300MB, and the ones I uploaded were about 30MB for a 512MB bit rate. I'll upload a raw video to Vimeo tonight to show the quality difference...maybe one lap's worth.

The final session is uploaded, and added to the original post. It felt good to get the cobwebs knocked off and get back into it. I really need to work on turn-in points, and being smooth in order to get back to where I was last year.

I'll take mid-high 1:20's on a cold and rainy day to start off the year though It can only get better with heat and a dry track.

Standard shift, and that's why I don't grab 2nd coming into the bus stop. It unsettles the suspension too much when I try to get my foot underneath. I "can" do it, but I'm not comfortable with it.

I tell you, after watching my own videos from this past weekend, it's a wonder I don't get bumped back down to the I-group. Thanks for the props though.

Next year will probably see the addition of a "newer" bike. We'll see

Here's where I should be instead of what's above Starting out the new year is always a relearning process.

Even though I would have passed you outside of T5 (), watching that makes me think I was shifting waaaay too much. You seemed much more smooth, I was banging down to second at bus stop, turn 6, etc...Nice vid though

What . . . you saying I was slow, erratic, and clumsy up there? Yeah, you're right

One thing to remember is that I'm running 15/48 gearing at Blackhawk, so my 3rd gear still has a decent drive through there without being twitchy like 2nd. If I used stock gearing, then 3rd would be lugging.

If I can get better from the bus stop thru T6, I'll be happy. It's always been my weak area.

You should let me borrow your bike for a session or two.
