Post BHF 9/23/09

Good times and nice seeing everyone. Novice had a really fast group, bit of a clusterf*ck at times too. Had a scare early in the morning when Steve had a mishap. Luckily he was fine, just a little banged up. Think the idea that he couldn't ride the rest of the day hurt more than his wrist but he kept busy the rest of the day tearing down the bike.
Some pics of his bike afterward...as you can see his rear tire has taken up the hobby of gardening fyi, Steve gave the okay to post his bike pics. Steve, if you need full size pics along with some others not posted pm me your email addy and I can send them.

That is a GSXR1000. Steve's first day on it. He just bought it Tuesday night from Flannery. What happened Steve? I don't even think that bike has ever been down before.

Great time yesterday, BHF is quickly becoming my favorite track.

The morning started out with a very damp green track from all of the heavy fog over night and in the morning, it really only affected sessions 1 and 2 for me though, be session 3 the line had dried up for the most part and the pace was coming up. I ran the morning sessions in novice and found my self either passing people constantly or being stuck behind the large group having only 1 person I had trouble passing simply because I never knew where he was going on corner exit. I spent these sessions concentrating on shifting ahd had a few botched shifts, including a flase neutral going into 6 and the bike slipping out of gear going down the frotn straight after an upshift. Im hoping this was just rider error and not an indication of a transmission problem. Ill be doing an oil change adn running the oil through a screen and cutting the filter open to see if theres any metal in there(I sure hope not).
Before the last morning session I spoke with one ofthe CRs (Trevor) to get evaluated for a bump into I, we went out for the last session before lunch and he kept an eye on me. I met up with trevor after lunch and both he and another CR (Mike I think... pink gixxer) though my lines were consistent enough to move up. I spent 1 more session in N because the I group went out while I was still running around getting the new sticker.

My first session in I was shakier than I had hoped and during the first 2 laps my nerves had me executing corners poorly. I took a few deeop breaths and got back into it after that and concentrated on being smooth rather than necessarily going faster. Things felt much better after I got myself collected mentally and the lap times came down accordingly. I still do not open the bike up on the straights as I kind of get scared above about 130 on teh front straight, I really dont want to go in too hot and blow the corner cause I couldnt get it slowed down in time.
I had a best lap time of 1:27:01 even with limiting my speeds to about 120 max.

Day was good. Faster then my first 2 track days but still not what I would be happy with. Getting passed too much. I found my lines really quick and was smooth/predictable overall but still have to work on my pace. Got some good feedback towards the end of the day that I will put to use next season. Till then I will be the hopeless slow guy I guess

You'd be surprised. might be faster next year than you
are now... Give your brain some time to digest...

I know I have taken time off before and came back quicker

(that said the opposite has happened to me as well.. but I took 2 years off.. not 4 months)

Already looking forward to spring... and it just turned fall..
and I am gonna be out there Monday for my last of the year.. pending some crazy southern trip happening

yeah I just got back from the doctor. Waiting to hear back from the ortho. Wrist is fucked.

Felt like a baseball bat was taken to me. I was CR'ing the I group and it was the second session of the day. Was fallowing behind a group of riders and was in between 6 and 7 doing over 100 I am guessing. Well there was a rider who went off the track after the kink and a rider hit his brakes and swearved to the right (for no reason cuz the incodent was was ahead of him and no where near the track) into my line and I hit the brakes as hard as I could to keep from ass packing him. Well I ended uper endoing it and face planted into the grounnd as I tombuled forever rolling like a rag doll.

The part that sucks is I didnt even have the bike 24 hours and its in pieces and also my trip to florida to ride at Jennings GP next weekend is up in the air since my wrist is FUBARed.

Good luck with the ortho, hopefully it just needs time to heal. Adrenalin is a hell of a pain blocker, you were wrenchin' on that bike yesterday afterward like there was no tomorrow. Lots of anti-inflammatory meds and drink heavily....that is my advise.
