Post: Blackhawk/Motovid Day Monday Oct 12

Overall a really fun day at Blackhawk as usual, despite the low turnout.

Only 98 riders had registered ahead of time and about half to 2/3 actually turned out. The weather while a bit cool cooperated for us and we got no precipitation the first session was COLD... I think all of the advanced riders skipped their first session I made it out for about half of my first session in Int. and just rolling down hot pit road I was surprised by the blast of cold air on my neck under the helmet. not many people made it out early on and I think my first 2 laps were done on an either empty track or there might have been 1-2 other bikes but I never saw them. It took a good 3-4 laps to get some decent heat and grip in the tires and the first lap I spent babying the bike through the turns slipping all the way I let this pattern continue for the rest of the day with the first lap being very easy in the turns making sure any real acceleration and braking was done while upright.

I brought a propane heater and it turned out to be a great decision to bring it. Coupled with the tarps hung on the sides of the easyup it felt about 10 degrees warmer in the easyup and it was really nice to warm the hands after a session.

After lunch I remembered to cover over the speedometer and it definitely helped I felt a lot less worried running down the front straight and the lap times came down (Thanks again to Supergirl for letting me borrow her timer) as well as I was able to pick up more speed along the straight sections, this is something I had been having problems with before since I would spook myself for the straight and never really get up to the speed I should have. I had what felt like my best session on the next to last and was really able to get some good laps put in. I made one critical error that Ill be working hard not to make ever again in downshifting before a corner. I botched shifting down to second while coming in to enter the bus stop right before the concrete patch and ended up locking the wheel and getting the rear end all squirrelly when I should have been turning in. It put me well off line to make the left hander immediately thereafter smoothly but I didn’t crash and I definitely learned from it.
For the last session I was planning on taking it easy as I was still feeling the adrenaline from the previous session, however I ended up working on my lines with one of the CR’s focusing especially on the entrance to the carousel. I had started developing a poor line turning in too early

All in all a great day and a great end to the season at Blackhawk Farms Raceway

I was registered, too. The cold weather (and rain in Iowa) kept me from venturing out!

It all goes back together the way it came apart...unless it came apart at redline!

I had a blast at my 6th track day (2nd time at BHF). I feel like I'm accelerating more confidently through apexes & my exit & my positioning has come a long way. Mike my CR told me I have to work on staying on my heel when turning & to turn my foot & knee out so I can get off the opposite side of the bike more. My best lap time was 1:41 & I was comfortably warm sporting my 1st leather coat, fresh out of the wrapper & such a worthwhile investment. All in all it was a great day & I can't wait for the next one.

"Hi folks, pics are up from the last trackday.

We are going to continue the effort from last year and make this an airfence fundraiser event. To sweeten the deal, an event CD is $30 for a download so that all proceeds can go to the Roadracing World Action Fund for Blackhawk Farms airfence. Let your friends know!

props to Gron4s for doing this!!!
