Sucker Punch

OK, I'll try and keep this Brief.

Reviewers panned this one hard. As my group of movie going friends stood in line we read reviews that said stuff like "an unerotic, unthrilling Erotic Thriller", and "confusing" etc.

My group, we (most of us at least) loved it for what it is.

It's a comic book style, fanboy fantasy, action film with mind melting visuals and a great soundtrack. That's it, no more, no less.

Besides being beautiful and having a great soundtrack, what really makes this movie great is about what they *didn't* show you. Sure there were sexy, gun laden girls in skimpy costumes battling German Steampunk Soldiers...but there was no T&A. That's where the reviewers got tripped up. They were expecting some ass, and got left with their imagination to fill in the blank. IMHO, that's where the movie was brilliant...in letting you use your imagination to fill in the blanks, and only painting the background and loose plot to swing around.

Seriously, go see it, but check your brain out and let the imagery and sound project directly into your minds eye. Don't analyze it till it's done, and you'll see a depth there that many missed.

This is going to be one of the few movies I'll buy on Blu-Ray this year.

in a nutshell,

craploads of eye-candy, storyline reminded me of "Pan's Labyrinth"

I thought the movie sucked as a story but rocked visually...the only saving grace was the SOUNDTRACK...which IMHO rocked in an IMAX theater.

Go to wherever has digital projection and quality sound.

The AMC...er, I mean Regal Cantera 30 has better sound in the medium sized theaters...the bass is overdone in the 4 biggest screens and it sounds muddy as hell. But the Regal has recent digital projectors in some of it's theaters...the one I went to was a big screen digital...loud as fuck (and boomie) but the picture was rockin.

IMAX is hit or miss...because not all IMAX theaters are truly IMAX. Some are just built by IMAX corp, and are simply 35mm projectors stretching the image to the larger screen. True IMAX is 70mm with something like 30,000 watts powering their sound systems. A *real* IMAX theater is a treat if the movie was made for an IMAX theater. I'm honestly not sure if the IMAX theaters keep up with the theater technology (digital projectors and sound processing upgrades), as I've not watched an IMAX movie in a decade. If I have some time this week, I'll do some research and see which IMAX theaters are real IMAX, and which are simply owned by IMAX.

? LONELY RAVEN why all the imax stuff.

you miss understood that i was asking someone that saw the movie in imax. thats ok i get that alot, more so nowadays. i was wondering does it really matter to see this in imax. i only go to theaters now for movies like avatar and only in imax3d. since this movie is not imax3d will it be just as kickass at home

i want to drink, but only to kill a certain few brain cells and i don't care how many i have to take out to get to them.

Deleted the IMAX stuff and moved to it's own thread.

Sorry, I get a bit pissed at the bogus IMAX theaters that are nothing bug slightly larger screens...and you're paying $5 extra for that? Pishaw!

ugh this movie disappointed on so many levels. You just dont care about any of it and want it to end. There are 3 things going for it:

1. costume design and the hot chicks in them
2. sound track
3. interesting fight scenes

It plays out like a video game with little to no consequences and it's hard to follow what is reality, what is fantasy level 1, and fantasy level 2.

Like the first time you see Memento.

I enjoyed it.

IF you don't try too hard to knit the story together .... it's great visual chewing
gum for the brain .... Some interesting psyco-twist to the story and excellent
visuals and music ..... my wife *hated* it.

I "got" the film, but it just wasn't that good. All visuals but little content. By halfway through I just didn't care about any of them and wished we'd get to see her dance.

I am guessing I'd rather watch Repo! The Genetic Opera again over this film. But this comes from someone who has never seen Highlander.

u know why she hated it? Cause every time you bang her for the nest year youll be thinking about those hot little tarts in unbievable slutty outfits looking fine with machine guns and having you wish you were 21 again to be able to tap shit like that again without having to pay for it!
