Prometheus...

...kind of sucked lol Def wait for bdrom or dvdrom on this one. 3D did jack shit for this film as well. If it weren't for Fassbender, this movie would have gotten 1 star. There is some seriously bad acting in this one. Ridley my man, what you did 20 years ago isn't going to work and didn't work in this one. That's great you rehashed a wonderful thriller with the prequel, but modernize your style bro. A good waste of a decent storyline.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Haha, I have a much different review I will type out later. My biggest problem is the movie seems to create more questions than it answers but overall it's pretty good and the 3d was very good

I thought it sucked too. I had high hopes. You could see the ending coming a mile away.

The characters weren't believable, there wasn't a whole lot of development, and the story was full of holes.

If you like really dark caves, rocks, and the inside of a space ship in 3D, then you will love the 3D in this movie. I never said the 3D was bad, I said it was a waste on this movie.

I dug it but admittedly I am a huge Alien(s) franchise fan having watched Aliens 100's of times over the years. I've only watched it once but thought it was pretty good. I liked the parallels with the other films. There were many little clues throughout the movie that made things add up after thinking about it for a while. I watched in 2D since I'm not a big 3D fan. Seems like anytime I watch a 3D movie it distracts from the story more than anything.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

This film was done with proper 3D cameras that were given to Mr Scott to try out. He had to change his filming and lighting style a bit to get the 3D to work, but I thought it was well done here...it added depth to the movie without being a Harold and Kumar things in your face 3D, or hack and slash done in post 3D that gives me headaches.

Note: the move is *not* a prequel per Mr Scott. It was originally planned to be so, but now it's just "something in the alien universe". I guess to make the story go where he wanted, he had to drop the pretext that this was a prequel and just make it work as it's own film that happened to be in that universe.

I thought it was pretty deep, bringing "God" and intelligent design and science all together, but without giving us any hard answers...yes, there are more questions at the end, but that was the intent.

There was some suspension of disbelief required here and there that bugged the science part of my brain, but beyond that I thought it was a well done, thought provoking movie. I plan on seeing it again on Blu-Ray to see if I could pick up some more details and depth.

This movie wasted one of the more decent storylines in a decade of film making. Not sure who casted this abomination or who wrote the lines, but with the exception of Fassbender, this thing was painful to watch.

I want a directors cut. It was obvious that scenes were truncated or removed that might have fleshed things out a little bit. Few films have created as much internet chatter in recent years than this one, it creates a lot of questions. I loved that the 3d was immersive without being STUFF THROWN AT YOUR FACE. I'm still in the 2D camp though, 3D is only interesting when it's not used for effect but used for immersion and then it's so subtle so as to limit it's need.

If they had done something as simple as going into why Weyland picked the people on his crew, this movie maybe could have gone somewhere. But without any background, it was anemic, detached. People are talking about it, cause the storyline had great potential. I think everyone is wondering how it resulted in this abomination.

There needed to be more character development, just a couple scenes would have done the trick. Even at 2 hours it felt a tad rushed. You have to wonder if fox made him fit it into a specific time frame, we know he had to fight to use an R rating as studios like to make everything PG13 these days to maximize audience/profits.

If we want to turn the thread into spoilers we can talk about some of the interesting questions the film leaves open. I wish it had tied a little closer to the Alien franchise but maybe that's where Prometheus2 comes in, we know Scott wants to do it.

So like VCook, I walked out with more questions than answers.

Normally I despise 3D because of the, “Over the top/in your face” aspect of it. I’m happy I was talked into watching this in3D as I thought it was well done. Especially with all the HUD work in the ships and stuff.

I’ve already heard that there will be a Director’s Cut Blue-Ray adding about 20 minutes.

On the prequel/not a prequel thing, here’s my take. It is a prequel in the fact that it happens in the Alien Universe before Alien happens. It’s not a prequel in that Prometheus directly ends in the vicinity of where Alien begins.

********CRAP HOW DO I ADD SPOILER TAGS.....DONT READ BELOW IT'S SPOILERY******

General questions I walked out with that were never answered, and in no particular order.
What happened to the xenomorphs that gut busted out of the 2k old space jockies?
What was the relevance of the green crystal in the container room? (that was with the one in the face that wasn’t a cargo hold right?)
What is still in Naomi? Does she become the space jockey from Alien that’s gut busted?
Why did the space jockey go apeshit and kill everyone after David talked to him?
What the hell did David actually say?
So the “goo” genetically deconstructs/reconstructs DNA into new species? The worms became snakes, the space jockey populated a world, the geologist turned into a freak yoga expert and what’s his nuts burned up, but is he dead?
What the hell were the murals, and what did they change into? The only one I could make out was the huge one on the wall that looked like a xenomorph and it never changed when the ceilings did.

IDK, that’s all I can think of now, though I know I had more questions.

Ciao,
Lupi

Lupi, Reddit has an explanation of the storyline that does a pretty good job. Search for that.

I liked the Dune miniseries better because it followed Herbert's novel more closely. But the original is still fun to watch.

I was psyched to see Prometheus, but now I think I'll wait 'til its in Redbox.

it was better than i expected given this county's target audience... basically just want nice explosions while eating greasy popcorn.

whoever said they wanted more realism. hey bro its a movie about fucking aliens that gestate in your fucking chest. realism?

one thing i was wondering is why the "engineer" at the beginning infected himself. and also what kind of protein recovery drank does he use.

reading one of the links wse posted talks about it.

Quote:
Now, consider the opening sequence of Prometheus. We fly over a spectacular vista, which may or may not be primordial Earth. According to Ridley Scott, it doesn't matter. A lone Engineer at the top of a waterfall goes through a strange ritual, drinking from a cup of black goo that causes his body to disintegrate into the building blocks of life. We see the fragments of his body falling into the river, twirling and spiralling into DNA helices.

Ridley Scott has this to say about the scene: 'That could be a planet anywhere. All he’s doing is acting as a gardener in space. And the plant life, in fact, is the disintegration of himself. If you parallel that idea with other sacrificial elements in history – which are clearly illustrated with the Mayans and the Incas – he would live for one year as a prince, and at the end of that year, he would be taken and donated to the gods in hopes of improving what might happen next year, be it with crops or weather, etcetera.'
the one article explains a lot of other themes/motifs...religion and mythology and how they are woven into the film. interesting. makes you look at the film in a completly different way. other article one looks super long lol
