wheel bearings

How often should modern sealed sport bike wheel bearings be replaced?

+1. FWIW, the OEM wheel bearings on my XX started feeling notchy around 40k miles & I ride in the rain fairly often.

What's worse is, brand new bearings last year & hit a large pothole on 53. One of the new front bearings already feels rough.

How much resistance should there be? I can spin the inner race with my finger but it requires some effort, they do not feel rough however and spin well on the bike, I'm assuming everything is ok.

There's supposed to be stiction in a large bearings like that. They are not free spinning so it should take a slight effort to spin the bearings. If they were notchy, you'd know it.

If they feel notchy replace them...sometimes the bearings get pressed into the wheel a little too far and get smooshed again that inner tube that goes across. This can cause them to feel like they have more resistance but are ok.

You will know when they are bad, they will start squeaking like crazy if they are real bad. Happened to me around 40k miles.

you are looking for it to run smoothly
the resistance can be from compressed interference and the grease used to lubricate the bearing

the notchy feel comes from worn out races and out of round balls

I had lateral movement on my rear wheel many moons ago and the bike was going down the front straight crooked almost dog trotting like. Then you'd come out of a corner and it would head shake the living shit out of you. Good thing I have a huge penis to balance shit out or I might have died right there and then.

Them be work shoes. I work for a living, and not just pushing papers from one desk to another and having meetings and lunches and banging secretaries. I'm in the trenches.
