The Zone Honda/Kawi... good place??

hey guys, so i had a couple quick questions.

1.) how's the rep on "the zone honda/kawi" as far as their techs and shop go?
2.) what is a good price for a "spring tune up"?

I was there earlier this week and bought some gear. they price match and were helpful so it was a good experience for me. BUT i dont know how that reflects on their service dept.

I asked how much a tune up was and they said their "spring tune up" is $169. good price?? i tried calling a local shop by me (the zone is about 30 min from me) and they said $200 for a lite tune and $300somethin for a full tune up. i was like yea rite! outta the 2 i'd rather take it 2 the kawi dealer since after all i have a kawi and i'd assume they'd know the in's and out's of my bike more so than a local bike shop.

just wanted ur guys opinions since i'm sure most of u are more bike savy/experienced than me lol thanks....

I'd make the drive to Chicago Performance before taking it there. I don't think its a bad place, but I'd rather have someone like Ken at Chicago Performance tune my bike up than anyone at that dealer. Plus he support the forum that we all slam 4000000000000000000 times a day.

Plus if you go too far East from the Zone you might get shot! :P

Define what you are looking for in a tune up. Define what the dealer considers a tune up. Then we'll go from there. The term "Tune Up" is so vague. What is wrong with the bike to where you need a "Tune Up"?

Honestly when i talked 2 the dude he mentioned alot of things lol about how they do a wheel to wheel check on pretty much everything, changing the oil, filter and other fluids, checking breaks and a few other things.

When i got the bike, i took a friend who knows a good deal about bikes. the bike is in good condition. and i'm just looking to get an oil change, filter, maybe plugs.... iono just wanna make sure it's in GREAT shape for the riding season.

I know the owner and the guys who wrench on the bikes there. The mechanics are great guys and are also friends. I have know Cyril for about 10 years. He rides on the track and faster than most on this site that race and do trackdays. He is one of the best mechanics I know. I would not hesitate to take it there. Pricing is another thing. I have no idea if that is good or not. All I know is they do quality work

Is great but you understand the whole plan is to find something to fix and convince you it needs MORE money.

That's just business.
I would suggest you find an older rider or maybe someone that has ridden many bikes to take it for a test ride.
And change the oil.

Gus

Shouldn't be a problem for someone who makes 6 figures.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Tune up? All I do is change the oil and keep the chain clean and lubed.

I'm not trying to take business away form Marty or Cyril but If you want someone to kick the tires on your bike there are plenty of us around here.

Changing the oil isn't that big of a deal. Buy the oil and filter and if you need help ask. It's a 10 minute process to kick your tires, check your brakes, chain, sprockets, wheel bearings, steering head.

If the bike runs good I wouldn't worry about the plugs. But if you are hell bent on changing the plugs it's probably a 2 hour job to dig in there, put the plugs in and put everything back together. The tank and airbox needs to be removed to get down to the plugs and then some finagling to get the old ones out and back in.

But if you don't feel like going through all that crap just take it over to The Zone, they'll take care of you.

I'm kind of playing both sides of the fence here Iknow...

I don't know how long you have been in the motorcycle game. But realize that people have spent years and years learning what they know. They have spent years and years collecting the tools they have to perform certain jobs. Respect this my friend and be prepared to pay some money to learn and pay some money to collect the tools needed to perform your own services.

You may think it's expensive when someone quotes you a price to do a tire change, oil change, tune up, valve clearance check. But they have the tools and know how. You don't. No offense, it's the truth.

169 bucks isn't bad to have peice of mind that your machine is in good working order by a credible shop like the zone.
