Fork seal price?

I was quoted by two dealers one was $300 and the other was $180. What is the going rate for fork seals and what else should be done when getting them changed? I want to also get a tune up but was told it would be a few hundred. I hate being the new guy. I know cars but I don't know shit about bikes and don't want to get ripped off.

inside deal is usually about 100$ labor + parts, and hope your forks are not scratched or rust pitted on the chrome, and thats off the bike, if you are bringing your bike to someone and 180 includes parts thats not a bad deal, i can do them for the price above, as far as a tune up, does your bike run ok now? its carbed so if they clog it will run bad tune up or not, if it runs ok then you probably just need an air filter, plugs, and an oil change, its an old 600 so it wont be "fast" no matter what you do, check the tires, if they're old you should think about that, if they are dunlop 207's replace them no matter what they look like(those came on those bikes in the day, a long time ago), i have some good used tires cheap and a tire machine

Most important thing is to trust who is doing your work and what you are getting for the price/what it includes. I could find somebody to screw that up for a lot less. $300 for both including parts and labor sounds fair from a dealer, but $180 sounds cheap or doesn't include parts, which could be costly depending on what they charge for.

It runs fine as far as I can tell, but I don't know anything about bikes. I had an oil change done and they said it was fine except for the fork seals, the kickstand is a little lose and I might need a new battery. I just don't know when it has been tuned up last. Both places are dealers the cheaper one has a better reputation around here. Also my tires are Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's and they have less than 1500 miles on them. The rear tire is a 180/55 ZR17 and the front is 120 /70ZR-17 Are these good tires? As far as fast I am a new rider this bike is faster than I need for now. I wanted to go to the tech day but I will be out of town that day.

I have a shop in Plainfield, Generation MX and live in Diamond. I'd charge $165 + parts(about $75) to replace them if you bring the whole bike to me. You could drop off at my house since it's closer to you. Let me know if your interested. Thanks, Craig

Those tires are good, but 1500 miles means they're probably at about 50% depending on how it was ridden. I would recommend taking your bike to Chicago Performance, Ken will do it right and wont rip you off.

There's a lesson to be learned here. No matter how much you pay or how good the work is you will need new seals in less than a season if you keep popping wheelies and land 'em hard

The cool thing is that each of you service a different Chicago vicinity. I know CP does good work but its inconvenient for me to go there. Just like I know you do good work but it is inconvenient to get down to your place. Believe it or not we try to set this stuff up to help the members. But, you cant please all of the people all of the time

I guess my thing is I'd love to help but at the O/P lower prices.

Which seem fair to me.

I am not willing to suffer fools that While being fair price to suffer fools a dealer will.

I charge $175 to service a set of forks which includes seals/oil....an hr. of labor if I'm taking them off the bike.

There's a difference between me and what a dealer typically does....they pull the outer fork tube and just install a fork seal and put it back together. I service the forks...disassemble them, pull the cartridge out, inspect them, get the sludge out and meticulously clean everything before reassembly.

Look up Borelli Suspension & Cycle in Mendota. I just had my forks serviced a few weeks ago. I took the forks off and brought them to him and supplied the oil & parts.
He charged me $75. Parts and oil cost me about $75.
He has an excellent rep in the LaSalle-Peru area and is a super nice guy!!!
