f4i sporadically cuts off while decelerating - please help

My 01 f4i started sporadically shutting off while decelerating to a stop. The RPM gauge drops to zero and the bike shuts off similar to what it does when you just stall it.

any suggestions on where to start looking or what it could be?

My TLR had the same problem for a while. It turned out to be a loose main fuse, which was cutting the battery off intermittently. Works fine at higher RPMs, where the alternator is putting out enough current to carry everything, but once the engine slows enough, the voltage collapses and the engine stalls.
